1. Yes, really, and, you are correct.

However in FC1/2 the missile burns its rocket to a set maximum speed rather than accelerating to as much speed as it can. For this reason the advantage given by a high-speed launch in FC1/2 is negligible .. on the order of a couple km at most.

Edit: Vecko, only on some days, hehe :D

MiniZap - Missile Launch Zone Calculator

    test setup with AIM-120B AMRAAM

    Intercept controls:

    Target Aspect: 180 deg

    Launch Altitide: 10 000 m

    Target Altitide: 10 000 m

    Target Speed: 900 km/h

    Test 1:

    Launch speed: 1200 km/h

Result distance to target: 58.5 km

    Test 2:

    Launch speed: 400 km/h

Result distance to target: 46.8 km

    Conclusion: 11.7 km difference !!!

As you know MiniZap is not 100% waterproof but it is very close with reality, much closer than FC2 anyway!

Anyway it is nice to know that the issue is addressed.

PS. To be honest I have not yet tested this issue because I always try to take advantage of launch speed of my plane as much as possible: it is about using the right tactic, implemented or not in FC2… :D

  2. You are absolutely correct. This is why I will never stop flying. I enjoy it too much!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I applaud those that have standards and remain professional. I could use the practice, that is for sure.

    @Scooternutz,

I see that you were not familiar with the old school Frugals community.

Oh man, Aragorn was/is a flightsimmer with the most vulgarity postings ever found on the net: trust me on that :D.

But anyway he is/was a hardcore flightsimmer. Of course he was the famous man too who was nailing once his wingman with an air-to-ground-missile at 30000 ft. :D

The old days of online playing with falcon… great times.

It seems that frugalsworld is down? I don't know if these falconboys still were live?

PS. of course he was banned about 100 times but at the end of the day most of the community loved him.

  3. Hello all,

I am a retired Sailor and I can certainly swear like one.

I was on a server last night and my young son, my wingman, was right behind me in his chair. All of the sudden some very disgusting chat messages started coming through. My son is 14 so it was no big deal for him to see that. I have always spoke highly of this hobby and the absolute professionals that fly.

I was just a little shocked at not one but more than 10 lines of vulgarity. There was one very gross comment about a $2 Prostitute. I am not asking anyone to change for my benefit but I wanted to express my thoughts on this. I will continue to fly online and I will continue to have my son watch and learn. It is just too bad that any of us have to put up with that behavior. Keep it offline or at least abbreviate with symbols. I have done that. The $2 Prostitute really was gross. Oh well.

    See you in the air!

    Scooter

Sorry mate for complaining but my Lockon Flaming Cliffs2 DVD box

    says "16" PEGI Rating… check www.pegi.info

Not trying to be unpleasant, but face it: FC2 is a war simulation…

But anyway it is indeed gross to disgrace the oldest job of humankind like that

At least 50 euro you have to pay…

    :D

  4. For the Russian fighters load it would be nice to load always 2 ET's and/or 2 R-73's as preset up.

If I get my preset up with a load of 6 x R-77's on the Mig-29s then the 1st thing I do is quitting that server.

An easy solution for mission builders on servers could be for example:

    nr 60 Mig-29s: 6 x R-77's

    nr 61 Mig-29s: 4 x R-77's, 2 x R-73

    nr 62 Mig-29s: 2 x R-77's, 2x ET, 2 x R-73

    nr 63 Mig-29s … etc.

  5. You may want to reset to default and try this profile. It's realistic and very good

    http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=51736

Also, one thing I had a hard time figuring out (I'm thick like that), when assigning axis (e.g. micro stick or range or throttle) just select the relevant assignment then just move the axis you want assigned to it (e.g. move throttle back and forth) until it is picked up by the assignment window.

    Hope that was clear.

ok thanks, I figured out how to activate your profile on my cougar with foxy!

The trick is compile/download the setup file within Foxy or whatever option and this enables simulation button mode for the hotas.

Now I just need to find a Mig-29s friendly TM cougar profile.

Looks like FC2 ignores everything you do in FC2 options controls assignments.

  6. If you're not going to program the stick with Foxy then just program the buttons in game. All you need to do is

-Clear default button assignments (DCS will try to auto assign buttons)

-Select the column for the Cougar

-Select the command you'd like to assign

-Push the button that you'd like that command to be assigned to

There is no need to know what button assignments are, all you need is to select the command you'd like to program and press the desired joystick button to be programmed. The first step is important you need to clear the assignments DCS makes for your controller when you first start the game with a new controller. That way what ever you assign won't conflict (In your case this is the Cougar assignment column). It's very straightforward you're just thinking it's tougher than it is.

    Example:

I figured out slider 1 for the thrust, so this I have assigned correctly!

For my target AA designator in the sensor section I was selecting:

left: <ctrl> together with "JOY BTN POV1 L"

right: <ctrl> together with "JOY BTN POV1 R"

down: <ctrl> together with "JOY BTN POV1 D"

up: <ctrl> together with "JOY BTN POV1 U"

but it was not yet working…???

"JOY BTN POV1 …" single was already used for camera view…

  7. If you installed the driver package from the Thrustmaster site then Foxy will have installed with it:

    http://ts.thrustmaster.com/eng/index.php?pg=view_files&gid=1&fid=3&pid=50&cid=1

Look in your start panel and see if Foxy is there-

I found the complicated Foxy program where you can indeed write complicated macros with.

But I did not find the FC2 names like

    JOY BTN5

    JOY BTN4

    JOY BTN1

    JOY BTN3

    JOY BTN POV DL

    JOY BTN POV DR

    JOY BTN POV D

    JOY BTN POV L

    JOY BTN POV R

I guess I start to figure out which button is what on my hardware manually:

    -> assign 1 button on 1 FC2 function

= to find 1 button combination I have to try 100 possibilities from FC2 options list and launch the game about 100 times to find out which one is it…:D

Repeat this proces for the 30 missing functions...

  8. Foxy is the Cougar Programming Software. Which O/S are you running?

I only have the HOTAS Cougar Control Panel , version 3.01

    Firmware version 3.06

    and I am running Vista 64 bit;

I just need a schema with some explanation on the Lockon FC2 names.

something like what is the corresponding name for the red cannon button on my cougar in FC2 options menu?

It shows me a long list of 100+ cougar button names...

  9. So I made my comeback to flight simming and I picked up a DVD copy of FC2 and now I have to assign stuff to my Thrustmaster Cougar.

My 1st problem is that I have to known the buttons names on my hotas.

There is no easy assign tool that shows me the names of the buttons that are pushed in?

Thus I need a list/schema that explains the names for the corresponding stuff on my cougar.

    It is been a while… 1 or 2 years? :D

PS. I can figure out the stuff that is already assigned like JOY X … etc…

  10. I realy liked this video on the world record made by the 940 AMD PII 6.5Gh. And run to 3.8-4Gh on air.

I am happy to hear that amd is keeping up and will bring again top performance on the market but

until a real Intel killer machine will enter the arena I will keep my I7 toy running on stock cooling btw.

Anyway I have a AMD ATI 4850 video adapter. My old AMD FX-55 still is alive and kicking also :D.

    anyway my latest pc specs:

  12. I say NO! @home I have cable 512kbps, on the move I have expensive 3G connection. Unless internet connection becomes free wireless common good everywhere. I say no to bandwagon like steam. I will pay more for the Internet, both in time (download), bucks (bandwitch), and frustration (lack of connection), then for a game that doesn't require this. I also hate running background apps that I do not need - but distributors force me to use them. I wanted to buy new Total War, and I skipped the purchase. Same thing with GTA4, I skipped the game, because all of the bandwagon that comes with it.

The major problem with steam is when the steam-server is down.

the only way to play for example total war empire in off-line for me is:

    1- disconnect the network

2- steam propose the "play off-line" option because there is a connection error

If your internet connection is fine and the steam server is off then it is impossible to launch the game, except with the previous method.

    @shamandgg,

Anyway you can play via steam any time without any internet connection and without DVD in your drive...:D

  14. In response to the thread http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=36244

I would say hat for the "blue forces" in the pacific theatre being outnumbered is and always will be a grim reality. The area to cover is incredibly vast, The "red forces" can disperse over so many airfields that you cannot dream of taking them out on the ground, and at least China has proven it can mass-produce credible designs like J-11 and J-10. If you compare to the European theatre, EU forces field many more and more modern fighters than their allies in the pacific. While the F-35 might be a good solution for airforces like Belgium and the Netherlands, I also seriously doubt it is OK for Australia, Japan and Taiwan to rely on it. They need more F-22's based nearby imho.

As a military simmer since 1988, I could see this coming from 1000 miles.

Indeed it can’t climb, it can’t turn and it can’t run.

This fat bomb truck is even not enough stealth because the compromise which was made to make it a vertical landing vehicle.

The big problem is that it is too late to cancel the project: too much money was invested and too many countries have signed for this disaster project.

You can put the F-35 against the eurofighter in a similar exercise and the outcome would be identical.

(even against the cheap F16-CJ block52 the outcome would be the same)

  15. ^^^^^^

No export, and that's the largest and probably the only firm issue with it!

Export would give away the advantages of the plane and make it useless.

    Ok, I was talking nonsense…

    Just checking my new signature…:D

    Skip and go next…

  16. Hello everyone!

Here is my very first video ever. So don't expect too much :)

    2 versions available:

    1 here 253Mb HD 720p (recommended) - 1280х720@25fps DivX 5552kbps 320kbps mp3; mirror1: part1 part2 part3; mirror2: 7zip

    1230000fn6.th.png

    2 here 71,7Mb - 640х360@25fps XviD 1404kbps 257kbps mp3

    120000wx0.th.png

P.S. also got HD 720p about 450Mb with higher bitrate if someone interested.

This is how I like the simulator movies. No Hollywood flashing crap but the real thing: what you see is what you get, no visual effects. Real 720 hd format with no stuttering (I guess this was rendered: no fraps crap too but I could be wrong)

    Excellent stuff.

I can’t wait to have my hands on this sim

(I think that I am going to buy me an Intel Core i7 Nehalem to run this baby in January :D)

    .

  17. Looks like I could have DCS BS in 42 hours and 29 minutes by train:

    Brussel Noord/Bruxelles Nord

    - Moskva Belorusskaja 42:29 4 IC, CNL, S, EC, D

    Details:

    1 Brussel Noord/Bruxelles - Köln Hbf

    2 Köln - Wjasma

    3 Wjasma - Moskva Belorusskaja

How long does it take to get a visa for Russia? :D

  18. Interesting news so I'd to share it.

Turkey to buy S-300 systems for testing

NATO member Turkey has quietly decided to buy variants of three different S-300 missile systems from Belarus and Ukraine to test them at the Konya training center with the Electronic Warfare Training Field (EHTS) system built by local firm Havelsan.

"These missile systems are intended to be used for testing and training purposes to simulate threats that may come from countries with ex-Soviet systems in their inventories," a local defense industry source told Today's Zaman. The decision to buy former Soviet-designated SA-12 (300V version) and SA-10 (S-300) missile systems, as well as SA-15 short and medium-range TOR systems, at a cost of around $100 million, was made during an executive committee meeting of the Undersecretariat for the Defense Industry (SSM) on July 22, but it was not made public. Sources close to the project said the systems will be tested mainly with F-16s using the EHTS system, which has been moved from Eskişehir to the central Anatolian town of Konya, some 250 kilometers from Ankara, where a regional combat readiness simulation center is located.

Tests with these missile systems will, amongst other things, help Turkey detect whether the Greek Cypriot administration, which has Russian S-300s in its inventory, has been using them.

"The missile systems were not purchased to be launched against perceived enemies and they will not be included in the inventory of the Turkish Armed Forces [TSK]. They will be tested at the Konya range with EHTS systems. Their radars and fire control systems are to be bought separately," a well-informed local defense industry source said.

During the tests those systems will be jammed, enabling Turkey to develop counter systems, said the same source.

Turkey has been holding combined air training exercises, code-named Anatolia Eagle, with Turkish jets and jets from allied and partner countries such as Israel, Pakistan and Jordan at the Konya training center.

The center, opened in 2001, also hosts Air Combat Maneuvering Instrumentation (ACMI) systems, which feature software developed by the Israel-based firm MLM. ACMI systems are capable of transferring in-flight images from jets to command headquarters.

In a separate development, Turkey is planning to include about a dozen long-range air and missile defense systems, worth around $4 billion, in its inventory for the first time.

An international tender was opened last year in March by the SSM for the acquisition of the missiles in which four companies are competing.

Official Russian procurement agency Rosoboronexport, however, has also renewed an earlier offer for the direct sale of S-400 missiles to Turkey as an alternative to Russian participation in the tender.

SSM head Murad Bayar told the Anatolia news agency recently that initially two of the missile systems will be installed in Ankara and in İstanbul, the country's two biggest cities.

US-based firms Lockheed Martin and Raytheon have jointly offered a combination of Patriot Advanced Capability-3 (PAC 3) and PAC 2 low-to-high-altitude surface-to-air missiles (SAMs) based on foreign military sales credit in the SSM tender.

The Chinese HQ-9 (reported export designation FD-2000) air-defense system, as well as Israel Aerospace Industries' (IAI) Arrow missiles, developed jointly with Boeing, are also competing in the tender.

However, the main competition has been taking place between Russia and the US, as the latter has already raised concerns with Ankara that the purchase of Russian missiles will create an inter-operability problem with NATO.

No need to test the old S-300.

An F-16 has no chance against the powerful ground radar of the S-300 even with jammers on.

This would be very stupid wasted money! :music_whistling:

If Yugoslavia would have had this system in 1999 then even the yugo-war would never be started.

  19. It is economy that eventually brought the USSR down.

Nevertheless, that Tu-160 is some airplane huhhh … It is the biggest of its kind in the world. A Blackjack with 12 Raduga’s Kh-55’s, that is scary.

    The only Mach 2.0 cruiser-bomber!

    Intercept that…

The Blackjack cruises at the top speed of the raptor….

From a base in Cuba tu-160 pilots would have a lot of fun :D.

  20. Whats realy scarry (not this hypothetic scenario) is that the US economy is sinking and bringing alot of other counries down with it (mine included). Those lines of people in front of banks to collect their savings from bankrupcy is reminiscent of the 1929 crash. We are living it again and the damage that it can cause is much more likely to happen than a confrontation of any sort with russia. It could trigger another war in the middle east, something that would make GW1 look harmless.

Even scarrier: there are half a dozen big banks injecting fresh money into the world economy to hold the pieces together. If this buffer gets exausted, the consequences for any of us, no matter where you live, will be catastrophic. Countries who need assitence from developed countries will be likely to abandoned to their luck, social unrest everywhere (like france not just poor contries) border tensions for enegertic resources etc etc. Add to this the current generation of mediocre politicians (europe has a nice collection of them too) and the potential for disaster is immense.

I am thinking seriously of selling my property in Belgium and buying myself a nice crib in the US.

I wonder what you can do nowadays in the US with like 450.000 euro (about 706.500 dollars at 1.57 :D)

Isn’t it wonderfully global world economy? :P

  21. According to an article in Combat Aircraft, Su-35 is proposed for export to a number of countries. I also guess ECM is something so sensitive that it is never in a standard "package". But the article states that Su-35, in contrast to Su-30MKK, has an open architecture, so that customers can hook in their own systems. They take about a Mil Std 1553B compatible databus, but it is not clear to me this will be the case for Su-35 or that the author just cites a common example.

Or could it be that the use of ECM-systems is practically useless against nowadays AESA-radars?

It is very difficult (read impossible) to jam an AESA-radar.
