  1. DCS in VR with options cranked up as high as I can get them is really demanding. I've had to put DCS aside for some time now as my current system is simply too old to get the VR detail and smoothness I want. I can run DCS in VR but I have to lose alot of graphics options so it just hasn't been worth it to me. I don't build new systems very often so I really didn't want to build off Intel 14nm and until recently AMD just didn't have the raw single core speed I wanted. However, that seems to have changed. I'm new to AMD. All of my previous machines have been intel based and I've never actuall
  2. Thanks for the replies thus far :) Greatly appreciated. To answer some questions... My budget would be reasonably high for this build so budget wouldn't be a deciding factor on which CPU. I'd definitely be planning to install whatever the latest and greatest GPU is, at the time, most likely the 2080TI. I would most likely be using 32 Gigs of memory. Possibly more.
  3. I'm planning a new machine for playing DCS using the Oculus Rift (Other gaming as well, but primarily DCS). My current system is a 3770K overclocked to 4.4 with a 1080TI and I still have to turn down so much detail in DCS with the rift that I've stopped playing until I can build a new machine. Its playable and I can get "acceptable" frame rates but I'm just tired of turning things down and want to see some more eye candy. The 3770K & 1080TI seem to still run pretty strong for most games but DCS in Oculus VR is very demanding. I really need FPS. I need all the performance I can get. I
  4. Thanks Ranger. Much appreciated. OPF is an awesome campaign so far. I'm thoroughly enjoying it. I currently only have the 2.2 OpenAlpha installed and a 1.5.8 Release version. My understanding is that the 2.5 Release Version will be released...hopefully soon? So I'm thinking I might wait for that instead of installing OpenBeta. So maybe I'll suspend my OPF and pick up where I left off in 2.5 Release version. Unless of course it turns out its going to be many months before 2.5 Release version is pushed out, in which case maybe I'll grab the OpenBeta anyway. Thanks again Rang
  5. Hello. I'm running 1.5.8 and I've tried this mission 4 or 5 times now and everything works fine until the convoy spawns. Kill the convoy of armored vehicles and I get a radio message that they are going to exfil to the west on the road...but nothing every happens after that. No more radio communications...nothing. None of the friendly infantry moves. It just sits there. The Humvee's don't move, they just sit there. Then on the west side there are two hueys that just sit there with their rotor's spinning waiting for...something. I turned labels on and I didn't miss any vehicles or
  6. Any word yet on the fix for 1.5.8? I'm running 1.5.8 and I've tried this mission 4 or 5 times now and, like others have described a few months ago now, everything works fine until the convoy spawns. Kill the convoy of armored vehicles and I get a radio message that they are going to exfil to the west on the road...but nothing every happens after that. No more radio communications. None of the friendly infantry moves. It just sits there. The Humvee's don't move, they just sit there. 7. DCS 1.5.8 - Release Version. Flying DCS A-10C loaded with either launcher (LAU-68 or LAU-131) loaded with the Mk-257 (Parachute Flare), flying at night.... Launching one or more Mk-257... The rocket will fly for less than a minute, and then I'm guessing that at the time maybe the parachute would deploy or when the rocket would provide illumination, DCS will completely crash and lock up. The following crash information is displayed... Problem signature: Problem Event Name: APPCRASH Application Name: DCS.exe Application Version: 1.5.8.12823 Application Timestam
  8. I'm looking to build a new machine for DCS as my current machine is going on 6 years old at this point (Though I did upgrade it to a GTX 1080TI a few months ago). I play DCS with VR (Oculus Rift) exclusively, so like many, I'm struggling to get all the performance I can to get the best VR frame rates and visuals that I can. I'd like to get some opinions as to what, if any, performance improvements I might expect when moving from my current machine to my planned build. The opinions of those who use VR and might have been on a machine with stats similar to mine, and who have built a n
  9. I'm not sure in the past 6 pages if anyone has mentioned this or not... CMOS Battery? Whenever I have a CMOS battery starting to go, I get symptoms similar to what was described. At any rate, its a cheap, and easy 5 minute fix and at least that can be eliminated.
  10. Thank you. These settings that were shared, and the discussion and comparison of the settings others are using is helping me to dial-in the right settings for VR as well. Not just in 2.1 but in 1.5 as well :) One thought, I'm not sure where on these forums it would be appropriate to post this....but maybe we could request that the developers add a built in VR benchmark as a feature? I know a lot of games have a benchmark built in. I don't know if there is such a thing as a "VR Benchmark", but if so, it would be nice if they added that as a feature and it would be something that wo
  11. After upgrading to 1.5.6 I've notice that all my gauges are just a bit more screen door, just a bit blurrier, and just a bit harder to read. Previously, I'd had my pixel density set at 1.6 and had achieved a good balance of FPS and ability to read the gauges for the type of flights I've been doing. As of today, I have to crank my pixel density slider up to 1.7 to get the same level of clarity I had at 1.6 and its still not quite as clear. It looked like my FPS was better with 1.5.6 but I don't want to sacrifice readability for FPS as the gauges are already difficult to read without lean
  12. Could someone please tell me how you roll back to 1.5.5? I've never had to roll back before and I think I'd like to. Thanks!
  13. I had no idea there even was such a thing as downloadable scenery replacement and such like in FSX. Those screenshots look terrific and I'm curious to try this. Has anyone used this scenery in VR with an Oculus or Vive? Do you think it would kill the FPS too much to be viable in VR? How much of an FPS hit does this terrain seem to cost you guys, in your opinion? A lot or just a little?
  14. It had been some time since I was playing DCSW and I'd recently returned. I've taken advantage of the Christmas Sale and purchased a whole bunch of modules. My DCSW installs (I have both DCS 1.5 and 2.0 installed) are growing and I'm thinking I need to move/reinstall them to another drive. Currently I have DCS 1.5 and DCS 2.0 and all their modules installed on my system drive. However, I also have another SSD with plenty of space free that I used to only use for Microsoft FSX. I hardly touch FSX these days so I thought I'd put my DCS there. What is the best procedure to do this wit
