  3. Looks like the X52 would be $22 to the eastern capitals(no promises, I'm guessing the weight). The TIR would be too trivial to worry about. I'll keep the offer open for a week or so to see if there is any local interest in Perth, and then draw straws to see where it goes. I will be moving shortly, so I want to get this complete within one or two weeks. Offers of postage are appreciated, but no money. Cheers, BiPod.   5. IIRC you can also silence a horn by pulling the breaker. I beleive that some but not all are correctly modeled.

I posted this elsewhere - http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?p=1129828#post1129828 What I have read somewhere: Both PAC 1 and PAC 2 will engage regardless of airbrake position (look at lower left of HUD), but with airbrakes extended the SAS authority may not be enough to hold the aircraft steady while firing. What I can confirm from experience: I find that with airbrakes extended PAC 1 (first stage trigger) works fine, but the plane pitches up when firing. Despite the tutorials telling you to use airbrakes, I find it better to leave them retracted (no argument will be entered into). It has been stated by a reputable member of these forums (link above) that the airbrakes are not used in real life for gun runs. BiPod.   7. The main undercarriage doesn't retract flush for just that reason. The wheels will still keep the belly off the ground even with a wheels up landing. Just don't forget to dump your stores first. :thumbup: Survivability! BiPod.
  8. Well, I'm glad you like it. I actually gave up after our conversation with Ice because I couldn't find a use for it. After trying different enemy defences (AAA and SAMs) I just couldn't find a situation where tossing was better than level bombing, at any altitude, followed by a sharp turn. I didn't try MANPADS and I suspect there may be some advantage there. Have you found an advantage besides the good fun? Maybe my tossing just sucks:D. I've downloaded your .miz, thanks.   10. Deja vu OK, I've partially repeated my tests with the release version (1.1.0.6) and found that not much has changed since the Beta. The anti-skid adds and extra 1000 feet to the stopping distance, and a light aircraft still takes longer to stop than a heavy aircraft. Having flaps down increases stopping time. Conditions: The aircraft was landed and allowed to settle while rolling. At exactly 120kts full wheel brakes were applied and the time to stop was recorded. Repeat results are shown separated with a comma. Distances are a rough estimate based on measuring from visual cues in the mission editor. My Point is, flying by the numbers may be a fun challenge, but you should not expect the sim to give the expected results. Hi Chaos, Before you post your results you may want to have a quick look at the first post here: http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=66217 I thoroughly tested stopping distances in Beta 4 and found some strange results. Lighter aircraft took longer to stop from the same speed and the anti-skid made things worse. A quick test of the initial release showed the A/S still increased stopping distances but I didn't recheck the other issues. @BlueRidgeDx Nice PDF! ....but did you check that increased weight really does increase stopping distance in game or is it just theoretical?   12. Nice work Seaner. I see from your post that the effect is greater than I thought it would be. To translate this into distance: (using some very liberal assumptions) WAGS will have got an extra 78cm over 1,667 meters. Seaners aggressive pilot will get 5.5m. So releasing with the g load still on is more than I thought but still negligible. ...but I am now feeling like the weather man who has just given his report without first looking out the window.   13. Thanks for sharing your results with us. I guess the quote below is the crux. So now we have an idea of the inaccuracy, the next question (for me at least) is the one of survivability. If I'm in the mood tomorrow I may have a go at testing this, but with so many variables I doubt there will be a simple answer. Given Ice's experience, I think level bombing at high altitude is a better option. BiPod.
  14. Nice effort and write-up Ice! I will dispute the idea that you need to be pulling Gs to give the bomb extra toss. All that matters is the instantaneous velocity, including direction, that the bomb has on release. The fact that the bomb also has a centripetal force acting upon it becomes irrelevent the moment it separates from the aircraft. AFAIK the reason you keep a constant G prior to release is just to help the computer maintain accuracy without wasting time and gaining altitude stabilising at zero before release. You have inspired me to give this a go. BiPod.
  15. Good tip. Several people have mentioned that RCtrl+Num0 was awkward. If you have space on your joystick though, I strongly recommend mapping it to your HOTAS. @cjlive Pretty sure the answer is no:(. You have to open the lua files for the data. BiPod.
  16. Once again.....as Thermal said above:). I will just add to point 2, that you can also hold the Numpad0 key while pressing another key instead of using the LWin key. This keeps it to a one handed operation. I strongly reccommend mapping the views to your stick if you have spare buttons. You can also change the default views, but that gets more involved. BiPod.
  17. As thermal said above, especially the comment about using a snapview (Numpad0+Numpad6). With the Targeting Pod you can use: - DMS up and down to zoom - DMS left short to focus - China Hat forward short to narrow/expand field of view - Switch from CCD to IR If you can't identify the target using all this then your only other option is to fly closer.   19. I have the non-pro version, but it is pretty much the same. Is there any way to use the Mode switch on the upper right of the stick the way I am doing things? No. To use modes you must use the Saitek software. It is worthwhile doing, but if you don't have time you can use someone else's profile. There are several available on these forums. Is there any use for the two radials on the throttle? I don't use mine, but some people use one for zoom. They can also be used for wheelbrakes. You can assign them in game in the axis section of controls. What is the Clutch button used for? It's a memory aid. If you program using the Saitek software and give your buttons names, then the clutch button disengages the other buttons and shows the button functions in the MFD. (ie. Hold the clutch and the "Flaps" button and the MFD will say "flaps" but the flaps will not activate). You can disable the non-pro clutch in the Saitek control panel, so it acts like a normal button. I didn't so much misunderstand what they had written as misuse it. I should not have made a distinction between a "transfer" and a "substance" definition. I created a false dichotomy which they did not really imply. The transfer and substance concepts can happily sit together. Just ignore the final sentence in my last post, it was wrong. However, it wasn't silly of them to use those words. That is definitely the way I was taught to view it in physics at Uni. We treat heat as a substance to aid in understanding, but know it is only an abstract concept. This does not mean that physicists and engineers are using incompatable definitions, but perhaps there are differences in the way it is taught. Hoping this is the end of it, BiPod

  22. Gawd! The universtity system has a lot to answer for. So many people with qualifications and no concensus on one of the most basic principles in science! I was shaking my head in dismay until I found this: It seems there is more than one definition of heat in use, and this seems to be to cause of the bunfight that this thread has become:). Several of the posts above are completely correct even though they contradict other correct posts. For the record, I use the substance definition of heat which is the "predominant use among physicists". VincentLaw is using the transfer definition which is apparently the original definition and the one used by Wikipedia. BiPod.
  23. The D and H have a 125lb shaped warhead and the G and K have a 300lb penetrator warhead. AFAIK the penetrator is designed to explode inside the target while the shaped warhead expolodes on the surface and directs its energy forward. In practice, they all seem to be one shot one kill. Perhaps the G/Ks are better for bunkers? The Ds and Gs use IR sensors which will penetrate light cloud in the sim, so there is a definite advantage in light cloud and night missions. No I haven't had a CTD with AGMs. BiPod.
  24. Good enough for practical purposes perhaps, but not really true. Heat is not the same as temperature which is not the same as IR radiation. They are all separate but linked phenomenom. The IR signature of an object will depend on its temperature (not its heat content), thickness, material, surface condition (rough vs polished) and even viewing angle in some circumstances. Different materials will emit different amounts of IR radiation at the same temperature. Polished metal may emit half the radiation as rough metal (surface area thing perhaps?). Bricks and wood will generally emit more than polished metal at the same temperature. ...but yeah, in a general scene most things would have pretty similar emmisivity, and I agree it's probably not worth the effort to model perfectly.   25. Just to clarify, in semi-automatic mode you have to activate the Chaff/flares dispenser and the JMR separately. I always use semi-automatic mode and activate the JMR as soon as my RWR detects enemy radar that I beleive is close by. I then activate the dispenser when I get a launch warning or pre-emptively when I get very close to suspected enemy AA. Auto mode goes through chaff/flares too quickly as the OP said. I only use it on a "one pass and haul ass" mission. Manual mode is almost useless unless you are an expert in picking programs (I suspect most people here including myself could do no more than guess). As the OP suggests, this does increase workload at a very critical and busy time, but I see no alternative, and its not too bad. -Use Semi -Activate JMR if you get RWR tone -concentrate on your own weapons as priority -slam the dispenser and evade if you get a launch warning. Just my recommendation, BiPod.
