  1. Just for even more specifics... The standard issue Air Force HGU-55/P Combat Edge helmet has gray elephant ears, gray leather stop blocks and a grey strip in the center that goes from the front edge to where the stop blocks are located (this is to prevent scratches on the inside center of the bungee visor.) It also has the NVG mounting brackets. Usually, when we have our HGU-55/P refurbished and the leather edge roll replaced, we omit the center strip (however some pilots choose to keep that because they have aftermarket mirror coated visors and don't want to risk scratches.) but when issued in UPT or B-Course, they usually have the center strip. The standard Air Force HGU-55/P with a JHMCS visor has the gray leather edge roll but does NOT have the elephant ears, stop blocks, or center strip. But it does have the NVG mount brackets. In recent years, the Air Force decided to allow pilots to customize their helmets (both standard and JHMCS versions) so you will see many USAF HGU-55/p helmets with printed vinyl graphic wraps. These wraps are easier (and cheaper) to apply than custom painting - since pilots must pay the cost of customizing out-of-pocket. The current issue Navy HGU-68/P now comes standard from Gentex with the bungee visor, black leather edge roll and stop blocks and has black leather elephant ears, as well as the NVG mounting brackets. The track-mounted visor is now optional, since most pilots prefer the bungee style visor (and many prefer to have aftermarket mirror coated visors - which are less expensive than mirror-coated track-style visors). There is also a standard 2" square of black velcro loop on top of the helmet for mounting the emergency strobe locator beacon in case of ejection on land or water. The current issue Navy HGU-68/P with the JHMCS visor has black leather edge roll but does NOT have the elephant ears. It also has the black velcro loop on top for the strobe beacon. U.S. Marine Corps HGU-68/P helmets run the gamut - some retain the track visors while other use the bungee visor. Many times, US Marine pilots wear camo helmets covers in the AOR, and they are easier to put over the bungee version than the track version. And ... contrary to what "Top Gun: Maverick" depicts, fleet Navy pilots don't have those colorful custom painted helmets. Both U.S. Navy and U.S. Marine HGU-68/P helmets (and the new $400K F-35 helmets) are required to have at least 90% of their surface covered in white reflective tape for easier identification in case of CSAR at sea... the remaining 10% can be used for squadron markings - which are usually vinyl decals. F-35 helmets have only the reflective tape and the carbon fiber pattern of the helmet. (no custom graphics)

After the latest update, whenever I try to engage either BALT or RALT, I get an immediate Master Caution indication, warning tone and an AUTO PILOT indication on the the left DDI and neither hold mode will show as being engaged. All other AP hold modes (ATT, CPL, HDG) work as intended... It's only the altitude hold modes that are not working. All was fine prior to the FM update. Thoughts?

You have to take 3-4 head-on photos (in high resolution) of the face you want to add (front, back, left, right) and then using Photoshop, you have to merge those 4 shots into something similar to what you see above - though be warned that if the eyes, mouth, nose, ears, etc aren't precisely aligned with those of the original face texture, it will look very odd and poorly done. It's much easier if you have the unwrapped wireframe of the original character model to use as a reference - that way you can do more precise alignment of the various elements of the face/head. Also... lighting is very important - you need to carefully and evenly light the face you're photographing so as to eliminate as many shadows as possible - so that there are no "baked-in" shadows on the photos that will conflict with shadows that are cast in the sim. This kind of editing also requires in-depth knowledge of Photoshop and it's advanced tools - including how to use alpha masking and the pen tools; the various blending brushes, rubber stamps, color adjustment tools; and advanced layering options. If you can do all of that, then you'll have no problems!
  4. You would probably do well to use OVGME to install it, then. That way, you can remove it and reinstall it with a single mouse-click if it isn't to your liking or whenever DCS updates to a new version. There are several good video tutorials on how to properly set up OVGME.
  5. +1 Apparently you can change them using arguments in the livery, but I'd prefer not to have to edit every single livery just to have the visors down
  6. That photo appears to be a T-38C... it has the re-designed intakes, updated engine nozzles, and you can see there's a HUD up front. I think it also has the MK 16 ejection seats (the front seat appears to have the canopy-breakers on top.) As of 2021, the 416 FLTS at Edwards AFB still had a few Charlies in white paint.. but even if they don't release with a white paint job included, It'll only be a matter of time before someone in the community paints one!

I had the problem with my WinWing MIP, as well... reached out to Omer through their Discord page and he sent me some updated LUA files... however there were some alignment issues with those LUA files and I eventually just uninstalled the Sufa mod when he became unreachable after the war started in Israel. If you contact him through Discord, he'll send you what you need.
  9. That is a simulator for the NZAF A-4K. It's an upgraded A-4F which is a completely different model than then A-4C. That would require a completely new 3D cockpit model to accomodate the MFDs and the UFC/HUD control (not to mention new code for those items). Basically... it would require a completely new aircraft model and avionics. You can't just slap in the MFDs from the A-10.

  11. Actually, formation takeoffs are not normal for departures. In fact, in the US, formation takeoffs are prohibited when carrying any stores on the wings. Generally, you only see formation takeoffs in UPT or B Course when stores are not normally carried. Sometimes, the Navy would do formation takeoffs during their Airpower demos at airshows - especially in the Tomcat era at NAS Oceana, but in normal ops, takeoffs are usually sequenced. Other countries' regulations may be different, but in the US you definitely won't see formation departures during routine training ops... and especially not in combat ops.
  12. I can confirm this also... viewing in the rearview mirrors or from an external view, the pilot's head is a little jittery. Just the pilot... the WSO is fine!
  13. Then it appears you've done something wrong... I'd repair DCS and start anew.. but replace the entry.lua before activating the CJS Mod in OVGME... that way it copies the mod over with the proper .lua file.
