  1. Don't get me wrong, I wholeheartedly agree that the decision to rely on Super Hornet exclusively was quite short-sighted, but slashing military budgets was the order of the day after the collapse of the USSR. In that context, having basically one type of a combat airplane (because Hornet and Super Hornet were oh so similar or that's how the story went) which can do a bit of everything is quite appealing. The point I'm trying to make is that Grumman should have sensed the changing winds, get off their high horse and develop an AST-21 prototype or whatever (with modern sub-systems, wiring, etc. to improve on operating costs) that could realistically compete with the Super Hornet's appeal. The signs were there for them. E.g. https://www.globalsecurity.org/military/library/report/1985/BRE.htm
  2. I don't think there was any hope for all three types budget-wise, especially in the light of the primary threat disappearing and the money sunk into the A-12. One gets the impression that Grumman was kind of caught napping expecting both F-14D and A-6F programs to continue as planned instead of seriously working on an attack 'Super' Tomcat alternative to both the Super Hornet and the A-6F as a backup.
  3. They announced it last year already. https://news.usni.org/2020/02/10/navy-cuts-super-hornet-production-to-develop-next-generation-fighter It's about time though (as that platform was the wrong choice IMHO), but good luck pushing that through the Congress.
  4. I wouldn't expect that the potential for modelling a Su-27SM influenced ED's decision on the Hornet's variant. I'd presume they'd simply chosen the latest they could get the docs for as they seem to be catering for the crowd which wants to recreate the current conflicts rather than fight some Cold War hypotheticals as presumably the former are more numerous (unfortunately). To be fair, the later Hornet variants are certainly much more capable in both A2A and A2G, but my heart would always go for the times of less multi-role where numerous airframes optimized for certain missions were the standard of the day.
  5. I have to say it's hard to imagine it won't impact the roadmap at all (read: the timelines of the other HB modules) - if TrueGrit could have developed it alone, they would have; thus, some experienced HB personnel will have to work with them on the EF module which means they won't be able to work on other modules, etc. But, OK, hope those other two modules will be announced (and thus get closer to being released) in relatively near future, but given the slipping dates with Viggen and F-14 being feature complete and now EF, I guess it won't happen in near future. Though, that's assuming at least one of them is indeed something from 70s/80s/early 90s matching the F-14 and Viggen modules. I do hope I'm absolutely wrong on most if not all accounts, of course
  6. I'm kind of disappointed by the news as this will seriously backtrack potential other HB modules they said were in development, while the EF, being one of the modern top dogs, won't advance DCS in the direction I'd like.
  7. I hope the end plan for the F-14 is to have key bindings for all of the cockpit controls made available in the Controls page.
  8. The base is meant for helicopter grips (thus, no switches), but in any case the handles you mention are for the Super Taurus and won't fit the Orion/Gemini throttle.
  9. I'm finally getting around this, but I can only bind the buttons to "Virtual buttons" with IDs from 1 to 100 and whatever. How do I bind them to a combination of key presses? Is there another place where these Virtual Buttons can be mapped to key presses or something? It's also idiotic that you can download someone's profile, but can't customize it. How do you 'create these profiles from game files'?
  10. Hmm, I see. I presume you're mapping it in DCS directly? One solution would be to use a middle man software (e.g. WinWing, Gremlin, etc.) which allows you to set more precisely press and release timings (e.g. for each click on the encoder, press this key combination for that long) which you could then experiment with until the switch on the bottom of the UFC is held long enough to move the CRS or HDG values by a single degree.
  11. Oh, that would be cool. Please report back if you notice any differences with the new grip.
  12. It's not an axis, but a rotary encoder presumably, so for each click it makes, it transmits a single signal which can be mapped to a key press (different for left and right turn, naturally).
  13. Glad you found a solution which works for you, but I would presume they haven't changed the design of this small hat/button? In that case, if it died on you twice already, it's reasonable to expect the same issue to pop up sooner or later, no?
  14. I understand that, but the recce button seems to be a bit of a weak point in the design in addition to how it's used. Sounds like they already replaced it once and I would say it's unrealistic to expect they'll keep shipping the grips back and forth for you. Better bet would be to accept the replacement parts and find some electronic service shop in your area which can install it for you quickly.
  15. I wouldn't call it broken if it's just recce button. It's definitely not worth shipping the whole grip back and forth just for that. Some of the reviews also had an issue with the thing falling out, so I presume some glue would help or something.
  16. The transmitter is not the problem here as much as the IR missile tracking unit which I'd presume simply tracks some sort of an IR torch on the back of the missile to determine the offset of the missile from the sight line so the guidance correction commands can be generated. A few issues come to mind in the context of supporting multiple missiles, one of which might be that when the missiles are brought roughly to the line of sight towards the target, they would block/overlap each other out from the tracking unit.
  17. By default, they do operate as DX-buttons so you can map them directly in DCS or use some alternative software (Gremlin). The reason I'd want to use their software for that is to create profiles which I can modify and load outside DCS and which (I hope) would also allow me to map the backlights which exist on some of these buttons.
  18. Also from the published/leaked reports of US pilots flying the Egyptian MS models covertly exported by Sadat government as part of the Constant Peg program. It would be nice to be able to find assessments on the newer and more capable variants (like e.g. East German MLs or the Syrian one which defected to Israel).
  19. I've actually seen this, but thought I'm on the wrong track as there were some per-device key binding options marked as 'coming soon'. So, by running a profile made here, this would actually combine all the WinWing devices as one virtual device as seen by e.g. DCS (kind of like what Target does)?
  20. Thanks for your effort, but you seem to be describing how to program the WW controllers in DCS. Again, I know how to do this and I'm asking how to do it via SimAppPro as then I don't have this issue where dcs updates break the mappings.
  21. Samsung G9 is a 49" super ultra-wide monitor with native G-Sync support.
  22. Again, the question is 'how to create binding profiles in SimAppPro instead of just downloading those that somebody else made from the cloud'. It is not 'how to create bindings directly in the DCS controller settings'. It shouldn't be this hard to ask a simple question..
  23. Err.. The MSRP on 3090 cards was $1500 to begin with and it is higher these days due to the lack of components. When you add a factory installed water block which is a limited series and was always expensive, I don't understand the outrage. If you can get a 3080/3090 somewhere for an acceptable price, you can buy a water block from EKWB and install it yourself.
  24. I presume you have some marble floor so one way might be to wear some indoor shoes with a thick plastic sole or to put some thick carpet under your feet?
  25. From what I can see, OP knows he can program it in DCS, but is asking how to program the bindings in WinWing's SimAppPro. I actually have the same question as I get the impression that the controls editor is not there yet, at least for these panels I got (I remember seeing "coming soon" when I clicked on manual bindings option or whatever it's called like).
