  1. I don't think so. It was as good as they could get it, and they found a way to make it better. I really thought it was done, but now I'm as excited as a schoolboy for the new one!
  2. Tested my suggestion on the PG map. What could go wrong? Winter storm! Mission called! Get airborne! Zero visibility on the ground. Beautiful dawn dogfight with some JF's, Mig-29's and SU-25's with the sun not quite over the horizon. Then a Su-25 tricks me into flying into a mountainside. I don't think I could have done a zero vis landing in the Viper anyway.
  3. This is a blast from the past: Cap's adventures with extreme weather. Unless I missed it, I did not find a thread where we can share weather tips and tricks. I wonder how many use the Random weather preset button to add variety to their missions.
  4. Excellent! Strange to keep those fuel bags on during all that jinking. Cat III for the win.
  5. Yes, I prefer SteamVR CRM instead of PD for that same reason: finer control. I'm testing 40%CRM now. I thought it was perfect before, but now it's ever better. Thanks again!
  6. Thanks, Speed. First time playing with Pixel density. LOL!
  7. A quick way to get to good performance is to click the VR preset, set Visib Range to Low, and Pixel Density to .5. The only change I make is to set 60 hz and Motion Smoothing OFF in WMR and Steam VR.
  8. Correct. You can try setting the refresh to 60hz in WMR. Motion smoothing should lock you to 30 fps in this case. I am currently running 60hz with Motion Smoothing OFF, Visibility Range LOW. This is the smoothest I have manged for DCS in the G2. I can turn up all the eye candy with these settings and get perfect frames.
  9. I am having great success with my G2 set to 60 hz in WMR, Motion Smoothing OFF, Resolution 1600x900 (my monitor is 16:9 so the GUI fits nicely in 2D), and Visibility Range LOW. Crank the rest up at your leisure.
  10. Does anyone know if DCS even has 5k textures? Is the OP seeing stretched 4k textures?
  11. Please check your monitor color settings. You want to choose the preset with the highest color saturation. I use Movie or Theatre mode for better dark colors. Also Gamma = 1.8 is best for daytime flying, but higher settings are better for low light flights.
  12. A little harsh maybe, but these are troubling times. Remember that jaggies are screen artifacts; they are not in the frames that the game produces. I am personally flying without AA, AF, SS, or any terrain shadows, and I have the 3080Ti. At 5k you should not need any AA or AF or SS at all.
  13. Perform, maybe, look? If you drag the Clutter/Grass slider all the way to the right it should look much better. I smell troll.
  14. I'm not sure if FXAA can be detected at high resolutions, but it's certainly not free. I am back to running my G2 at 100% full native resolution with 3840x2160 and no SSAA, MSAA, FXAA or AF. High resolution eliminates the screen jaggies better than aliasing, filtering, sharpening or scaling. The only drawback is the large frame size, but this is not an issue on my system.
  15. VR won't let you spin around in your seat like a WWII fighter pilot like TrackIR, so you get an additional element of realism. BTW, we old Falcon4 pilots don't suck. The game keeps getting better.
  16. Troubleshoot your network interface. Let Windows fix any errors found.
  17. Yes, it's not perfect, but that is a headset issue. These same settings in 2d on a 4k monitor are very nice as well. High resolution seems to cut down on the shimmer and shake. MSAA x2 pretty much eliminates it. I can do MSAA x2 and SSAA 1.5 very easily with my setup in VR. Pumping raw pixels (no AA or AF) in 2.7 in VR is a bit like putting the top down; you can't quite see with the wind in your eyes, but it sure feels good.
  18. So, it works if you turn it on via the 3Dmigoto mod? But not if you turn it on via the NCP? Still, blazing fast with no AA and low textures. It performs quite well in VR IMHO.
  19. I have the 3080Ti with the G2. I have found that high resolution, with FXAA=ON in NCP and all other AA off, and textures set to LOW across the sim, gives the game engine a real boost in VR. Try these settings in the community mod a4e-c over Dubai at treetop level at sunset with a full moon. This is a very modern cockpit model that is great for testing and a pleasure to fly. It looks better with low textures and shadows compared to the F-16, for example. The key here is no stutters and high frame rates. After a week of flying these settings even in 2D I don't even notice the jaggies. Highly recommended.
  20. Vulkan Choppers doesn't seem to run though.
  21. Exactly. All units in a combat sim share certain behaviours. Move. Fire and Move. Is this one or two states? I have not written an entire AI, but I did get a finite state machine working in python just to see how a simple, single-state AI might work. It becomes tricky when you want them to be in two states at once. I believe the obvious solution for this is to use queues, but I did not get that far. If you recall The Sims, this was a clever AI that managed a queue of needs for each AI. I don't know how much the AI tech has changed since then, but the problems remain the same. Review state changes and decision trees. Look for ways to add randomness to decisions that would provide variety and seem realistic. Take a replace-ability approach so the community can plug in their own AI "flavours", perhaps. These might be tasks on someone's plan.
  22. Jaggy? Yes, but also 100 fps with high terrain textures on Syria Map. How far we have come.
  23. On the subject of improved AI, I have been testing with Skill set to Random for my AI's lately. No observations yet, but the goal is to find out if their behaviour is at all random. I believe, IMHO, that an AI that is surprising and clever at times, that doesn't do the same thing each mission, would be more valuable than an attempt to create the holy grail of the dynamic campaign. A better AI would make ALL existing content (missions and campaigns) suddenly fun to play again. I reviewed the MOOSE framework, but I believe the correct approach is to add enough randomness to their behaviour such that the AI is at least not so predictable. I don't know if simply setting the skill level to Random will achieve this result. Anyway, I would love to have a discussion on this issue.
  24. I ran these settings butter smooth in my G2 today (minus Vsync). Nvidia Control Panel FXAA=ON, everything else on defaults. If anyone wouldn't mind benchmarking them, please ignore the odd jaggy and report on frame rates. Thx. Edit: these are a better set. I can hit 60fps on Syria map consistently.
