  1. Excellent video, really great. The only regret I have is that all the talented video makers from various gaming communities seem to be always using the same music themes. The tanks and vehicles models are nicely done maybe ED will realize a tank simulator in the future :) If ED, Bohemia Interactive and Esimgames would work together to release a simulator, it would be a killing !
  2. Some new stuff. 14th July was Bastille Day in France, a documentary on the Rafale was aired on TV. http://videos.tf1.fr/video/news/france/0,,3492769,00-dans-cockpit-rafale-.html In the documentary they showed some footage of the OSF sensor (at 5:45) observing a helicopter in BVR. According to the journalist, the helicopter (I can recognize a PUMA) was at a distance of 30 km (How much nm ? 15 ?). If you look carefully, you can see that the zoom was at level 4 on a scale of 6. I have no clue if those images are from the IR or TV channel. That would be very interesting ! (for the F-16 there is already the F4 series...)
  3. Yes French pilots really like the OSF sensor, it is a good tool ! Tflash, if you want more news on the Rafale, you can find some on the net for free : http://www.le-webmag.com/article.php3?id_article=165&lang=en http://new.isoshop.com/dae/dae/gauche/sponsors/sponsor_rafale/index.htm http://www.dassault-aviation.com/fileadmin/user_upload/redacteur/presse/lbg07/defense/rafale/RBE2_AESA.pdf http://dada4.free.fr/Dual-use%20missile.pdf http://www.flightglobal.com/articles/2007/06/18/214754/radar-and-optronics-will-define-future-rafale.html I love the cockpit too =) http://kovy.free.fr/temp/rafale-cockpit.jpg
  4. The Shkval is a very 'interesting' weapon but, I too think, it is very limited. It is more an underwater rocket than a torpedo. I used to 'play' dangerous water (ok you can laugh) and I became good enough to sim it without any help from the software. The possibilities to use the Shkval effectively were not numerous. In pretty much every scenario (defensive or offensive) it was much more effective to use a torpedo (any kind of torp) than the Shkavl. The only targets I could hit with it were big and slow boats such as tankers. Others boats such as frigate and fast boats could avoid the Shkval easily (or just hope for targeting error) and then immediatly counter attack because the Shkavl has a very limited duration and as soons as it is over, the enemy boat can come back on the offensive. I made my opinion on the Shkval both with publicly available datas and throught my experience on DW. I know I am not an expert but it was my 0.30 cts :) At 18 knots the sub will not be silent...And it will be completly deaf too...And its autonomy will plummet too...
  5. Nice vid, it seems that this video is played fast forward LOL. Although I mean that as a joke, I wouldn't dismissed the possibility either.
  6. Excellent ! and the voice acting is great lol! good luck for the contest.
  7. Yes but the air temperature at high altitudes is very cold and in the negative. So, 100C (I am not even speaking of the exhaust coming out of the engines) on an uniformly cold background, there is a possiblity that latests IR sensors can pick up such difference. Personally, I am not sure why some people think it is impossible. Furthermore, iirc, atmospheric conditions at high altitude are more favorable for good observation as most clouds form at low and medium altitudes.
  8. I would really welcome the addition of infantry soldier in BS. It would add a lot of immersion. But ED said that it would require too much work. But honestly if they added infantry, then the community would start asking for correct AI behaviour, bushes and cover (which the LO world lacks a bit), etc... Maybe something which could be added, without requiring too much work, could be : incoming small arms fire from buildings and rooftops ? i don't know... If infantry soldiers are located into the different floors of a building, they don't have to be modelised, only the incoming fire could be modelised. I would love to fly over a city in BS and then receive some incoming fire from buildings (helo ambush).
  9. Interesting read but nevertheless I don't think that any of those numbers is accurate. It is a opinion-post to me.
  10. hehe, but let's assume he is a L33THAXX0R pilot, by the time he does his manouver the following aircraft doesn't have time to react and position himself for a shot, he has just the time to think "oh noes !!! im gunna overshoot !!".
  11. I know it was an ironic comment but I think that the airbraking capability of a delta wing can be used to its advantage if the pilot knows what he is doing. For example in an overshoot situation : - if a conventional aircraft wants to make a M2000 or delta wing aircraft overshoot him, the pilot can use the delta wing as a giant break and cancel his plan. - or if a M2000 pilot wants to make an aircraft in his 6 overshoot, the delta wing will facilitate the manouver. Very nice pics by the way, first time I see so detailed pictures of M2000s cockpits.
  12. Wow just wow. Very interesting video. Thanks for posting.
  13. Yes that's right, the rockets seemed to be inacurrate. But don't mistake the gunner sight in the camera with the (iron?)sight for the rocket. I believe the gunner or pilot has another independant aiming device for the rockets. The sight in the camera seems to be use for the cannon (inacurrate), TOW (very good precision), and the hellfire (good precision although one of them didn't hit his intended target).
  14. True, the speeds were better during the 1st days of the release, but most people practice 'hit and run' on torrents and won't seed for the rest of the people waiting to complete their dowwnload, that's a shame. I am not a gun maniac myself but that vid is good if you want to learn stuffs (amaments, types of objectives, way of operations, teamwork) on the Cobra and see this deadly machine in action. Althought you see the gunner strafing enemy infantry during a few seconds, the vid is not gruesome. I did feel bad for the soldiers in the armored vehicles destroyed throughout the video though. military personels like to glorify their kills...i can understand that, they are making a difficult job. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- What are the things that 'shocked' you the most during the video ? For me it was to see how the enemy armored vehicles had nowhere to hide from the cobra : if they were hidden under bridges, they were destroyed easily with TOW missiles. It was also interesting to see the Cobras destroying the SAMs sites with hellfires. The Cobras were probably creating a safe flight path for the american aircrafts.
  15. A friend of mine sent me a nice torrent link to a video from a cobra helicopter during combat operations in Iraq (the first part of the war). The video is a big file (+500Mb) : http://static.thepiratebay.org/downloadtorrent/3400119.torrent/Cobra_Gun_Camera_Footage_From_Iraq.3400119.TPB.torrent Bitorrent application is needed to download. You can preview the footage here : http://mariyaguchi.com/cgi-bin/up/source/up1687.jpg I heard Eagle Dynamics may do cobra simulator in the future, maybe they can have informations from this video.;)
  16. AI aircraft use the same flight dynamic system as player-controlled aircraft. I don't understand this feature for the LockOn Blackshark project. Can somebody explain it to me ? To me it seems that if i fly a mission with a F-15 or Su 25 or Ka-50, all the other planes in the theatre will use the same FM than me. If this is what I think, it could lead to strange behaviour : AWACS flying like fighters or fighters flying like Su-25, etc...
  17. In my opinion, those ratios mean nothing. How those british agencies would have had access to all the parameters involved in a combat scenario to realize a simulation ? Lots of things about the aircrafts involved are classified so they must have used a lot of approximations and well, a simulation is just a simulation. Most likely those ratios have been published to help the sales of Eurofighter while satisfying the ego of the countries who possessed them : "Look the F22 is the uberleetplane with a 10:1 ratio and which plane is the 2nd... surprise ! it is the Eurofighter which has a 4.5:1 ratio. OMG we are leet too !" ;)
  18. 1)Su 27 2)Su 33 3)Su 25 (probably 25 T when i can have 1.1) 4)Mig 29S Although i fly them on a regular basis, i dont really like the US planes in Lock On. I find them far less challenging and interesting (at last for me) than their russian counterparts. Also on the F15 i cant have a good resolution/visibility of the RWR and on the MFDs because i use a wide cockpit view angle, this is really annoying as i have to zoom on my instruments to read what is displayed each time. I also dont like the US RWR (the way it displays the threat relatively to the aircraft). How ironic in 1.02 i didnt like the F15 much because i thought that it was too easy to make a kill, and now in the 1.1 demo i dont like the plane because the Aim120 is completly unreliable. Its difficult to find a good balance...
  19. your whining is getting out of hand too i agree that 50$ is expensive for an addon. On the other hand, who cares that you have no use for the russian birds ? None ED did a very good job modelising a new plane in the add on and adding new feature for the Sus and Migs and lots of other things. If you dont have the natural abilities to enjoy the quality job realised by ED in FC, thats not their fault. They gave you all the tools to enjoy the sim if you dont want to use them all because you have no interest in them or you dont have enough time, blame yourself not ED. Anyway, this is not a patch and you know it otherwise you wouldnt be looking for flaming cliffs as you do. Moreover, you dont need flaming cliffs to play Lock On. If you dont like the content of Flaming Cliffs, dont buy it, no need to cry, the add on was not developped and was not supposed to be released on the western market anyway.
  20. annoying bug in 1.1 demo (maybe also in 1.1 release) when switching plane (alt+J) with the wingman in the 1.1 demo : 1) i cant use chaffs & flares in the new plane 2) the new wingman (former lead plane) will not answer any order (go to base, rejoin formation, do this, do that, etc...), he just completes the objective and wont do anything else.
  21. there is still room for improvments yes AI in 1.1 has been improved from the things i have been able to see in the demo. Unfortunately, the AI for Air to Ground planes (su25 & A10) is still unable to deal correctly with SAM using IR guidance. You cant ask your wingman to "attack air defense", IR SAMs do not use radar emissions, so the wingman will answer "negative" as if there was no air defense. The AI is also unable to make a good defensive manouver when it is targeted. For example, if a strela launch a missile on a wingman, there is 80% probabilty that the wingman will be shot down whereas most of the missiles could have been easily avoided...frustrating... Also, if one design an attack mission with some SAMs (even only 1 sam like in the demo), if the wingman is on his own, he will repeatedly fly over the threat until he is shot down while completing his objectives, forgetting each time that he enters a danger zone which he should avoid. The only work around that i have been able to find considering the AI of SU25 and A10 is that now i always tell them to go back to airbase at the beginning of my mission. Thus i do the first part of the mission with the 1st plane then when i have used all the ammo of my plane i switch plane and use the load out of the wingman =( while i ask my 1st wingman to go to airbase. ...or another solution is to design missions with very few air defenses, the wingman only do his job correctly when there is no more threat.
  22. also if the "attack my target" command could work in A2G, i would not be struggling as hell to find a way to use my wingman. i tried to designate targets with my maverick and then ordered my wingman to engage(he has the same load out as me) but it doesnt do anything
  23. i dont like to switch planes because its unrealistic. and i try to make things move.
