  1. 08 January 2021 Dear Fighter Pilots, Partners and Friends, 2020 was a tough year for most and a challenging one for Eagle Dynamics too. Despite COVID-19, we managed to release several products and core improvements which we hope were up to your expectations. We also changed our Open Beta release cycle and focused more on quality and less on feature delivery. For this we have you to thank, our faithful community. We really count and value your feedback, without your trust and patience, we would never be able to achieve the level of quality and enjoyment that you de

We can assure you that all of your answers and opinions have been thoroughly read and evaluated. The COVID-19 pandemic and its worldwide impact (including our business) have also influenced our IADS simulation development plans. Nevertheless, in the last couple of months, we've been working closely with the ED team on this module's possibilities and features, which we would like to share with yo

Now, more than ever before, our customers around the world have found inspiration and value in the breadth and quality of our products, which impacts their lives in big and small ways everyday. We would like to share a development report on our DCS: F/A-18C Hornet. We are currently working towards an impress

  4. Hi Everyone, My name is Marcus from Battlefield Productions. I would like to share some ideas with the community for content we would like to bring to the DCS platform, content which we hope we can bring in an official capacity. Before we take the next step of talking with Eagle Dynamics we would first like to conduct a small assessment to be assured our our ideas are compatible with this community, and that those visions meet the community wishes & expectations. In the first instance Battlefield Productions are interested in producing the following content, the ideas b

With the enormous changes in technology and the broad improvements we are planning, please be aware that Windows 7 will no longer be supported as of the release of DCS World 2.7 which we hope to be releasing in the coming months. We will of course be informing you well in advance when a firm date is finalised. This week, we would like to take the opportunity of sharin

Key moments from the above interview with ED's Mi-24P project manager Alex Podvoisky: - Alex is an ex-military helicopter pilot (1200+ hours on Mi-8). Working at ED since 2011/12. - P ("П") model of the Mi-24 has been chosen by ED because of the real Mi-24 pilots who requested it specifically. Also, the Mi-24P can be flown, and most weapons can be employed, from both cockpits. - The "average" Mi-24P has been modelled, the most common "domestic" variant, withou

  7. I am new here to DCS. A little of a personal story. I am a civil engineer, my brother is a pilot for the Army National Guard and flies both Apache's and Blackhawks. He is also a police officer. He is retiring soon from both, after 20 years in both (doing both at the same time, as he was Guard, not full time). As anyone here who is a pilot or police officer knows that is a something hard to let go of, and the transition can be difficult. I found DCS a couple years ago, but have not been able to play yet as I know its a commitment in time that I dont have at the moment. B

After dipping my toe in the DCS world a few times over the years, but ending up bouncing between it and other things, I finally decided I wanted one of the premium modules, and after another couple of months I decided which one I wanted and got the Hornet, and in the three weeks I've had it I've mostly been familiarizing myself with the systems and practising basic airmanship. Earlier tonight I'd finished some night flying practise in the Caususes, winter, 23:00, fine weather. After half an hour of circuits and bumps I taxed to the parking stand and shutdown. 10. So you want us to nerf the AIM-54 because it has an unfair range advantage? Not sure were you want to take that line of reasoning, we're not ever going to "balance" the F-14 against some notion of a "fair" aircraft to aircraft fight, we're always going to aim for making it as realistic as possible. If you want a 1:1 capability match-up use the same aircraft on each side. You're also making a lot of assumptions about our tuning of the missiles and it is true that we put the chaff resistance of the AIM-54C as being close to an AIM-120B as, frankly it seems to have had a lot in common

  15. If you want us to take you seriously I suggest you stop inferring that we would malicously try to make the F-14 better than any other aircraft as this is simply not the case and something bordering on conspiracy theories. Everything we do is to make our F-14 as realistic as we possibly can within the limits of DCS or simulation in general. Like was mentioned in the original thread our ecm only differs in that we implemented it to automatically switch on and off as needed but it is still the very same ecm as any other current aircraft in DCS. In fact, if you switched on and off your

I just want to let other non-VR users know about my experience and I feel that the reach of this forum is better suited for that... Right, so... I own a potato-laptop by today’s standard. Mind you, it was crazy fast… 5 years ago. It’s an i7 6700 @ 3.4GHz coupled with 32GB and a desktop class GTX980 graphics card. It served me well for all those years. I play DCS exclusively. However, as is to be expected, it has gotten slower over the years and I’ve held off on upgrading for as long as I could. No more

  17. Ladies and Gentlemen, it's time to get that hype train started. All aboard! As you know, my next campaign to be released is 'Zone 5' - a 1980s air combat training campaign for the Heatblur F-14A. I worked on it in cooperation with Dave 'Bio' Baranek, former F-14 RIO and Topgun instructor, author of Topgun Days, Before Topgun Days and Tomcat RIO. (You can even hear his voice during the briefing and the debrief) The idea was to bring his amazing experience to you guys with the help of DCS World, to give you a taste of what it was like to be up there and train with the best,

  20. Dear Jack, this is not true at all, the only thing that is true is that the F/A-18C came out before the F-16C, and therefore the priority to finish the F/A-18C remains higher, that said, we have hired new devs for the F-16C months ago, and they continue to work away on the F-16C. All customers of all our modules are important to us, we do our best to make sure we meet their expectations the best we can based on how many dev hours we have in a day. Thanks.

  21. Essentially this. Just because the cat was turning close to the charts in a small mach range does not mean it was perfect everywhere else. Once we had the F-14A, our SME (who only flew the A) determined there were other issues with airframe drag in general, especially in the transonic and supersonic regions. This is half expected because the primary wind tunnel data source only contains data at wind tunnel (read: very low) speeds. On top of that, we have been taking a closer look at stores drag in the tunnel since we believe there are issues with that, too. The amount of data in the performanc

  22. I fully support and agree with everything Battlefield Productions has suggested bringing to DCS. Being former military and current DOD contractor, I get really tired of people referring to ARMA as realistic or the go to sim for ground forces and accurate armor modules. I will not get on the ARMA hate train but there is NOT a sim out there right now that remotely comes close to the capabilities of creating a full blown armor module/ground sim like DCS world could, and do it with the honor and accuracy it deserves. I think this is an outstanding idea and I have been a massive proponent for it

  26. Yes because comments like these from someone with "CSGO" in his name clearly show that the person treats these games equally - like some sort of team deathmatch where the K/D ratio matters. This isn't what DCS is all about and if you are this emotionally involved and mad at people doing certain stuff online you probably should step away for a bit. Just my opinion. This isn't ED's or the developer's fault in any way.

  27. Thanks for the comments so far. Just to clarify a couple of small bits More Detailed Ground Vehicles "The Pipe Dream": Not sure what the take up of Combined Arms has been, but having played it, it seems like it was a great idea that was probably not fully realised for various production reasons, the frame work is there, it just needs expanding as a concept and making into something which holds enough interest to generate its own player base. Re: the co-existence of these vehicles vs the "Airforce" - yes valid points, but I think if the ground forces became good enough it

In the timeframe of my creation, AB 200 would be displaying the Admiral Clifton Award as they were recognized as the best Navy Fighter squadron in the year prior. 159008 unfortunately would not serve for very long, having crashed near NAS Oceana late October of 1977 under the colors of VF-101 Grim Reapers, only seeing around 3-4 years worth of action before bein

I am not sure what you mean about pixel fidelity, it’s simply adjusting pitch, looking at the entire world out of the window. Analog altimeters and ASI’s allow a pilot to immediately judge energy and rates by general need position and movement, while a digital readout on a HUD, which also requires a sim pilot to look forward, to read all three digits and cogitate as to what they mean. 37. The 8 and 24 are extremely similar, that's a fact. The Mi-24 was designed on the drawing board to fill an empty role and answers the Red Army request for a versatile ground attack AND transport helicopter. It was built using very similar and often the same dynamic components ( rotorheads, transmission, drivetrain, engines... ) than the Mi-8 to save time and costs on development and servicing. For instance, the main rotor is basically the very same but with wider chord blades. You can compare the Mi-8 and Mi-24 with the UH-1 Huey and AH-1 Huey Cobra, they wer

Unfortunately the turn rate and performance tuning is the last item in a very long process. We are currently investigating drag for fuel tanks and stores mounted in the tunnel, supersonic airframe drag, and AB thrust in the supersonic region. Turn rate performance can be evaluated and tuned after all these other issues have been resolved and set in stone, and the process takes almost twice as long as we now have 2 airframes/engines.
