    [REPORTED]Weapons.dll consistent crashing

    Mission uses Moose, Mist, and the IADS recently posted by Pikes.

    Not sure what the cause is. If anybody can please point me in the right direction I would appreciate it.

    Hi Gannon. I looked for similarities in your 2 first logs (I can't open the third one). Here is what I found:


    1/ August 30 - Pilot Shinobi does a run on ground units:
    1. Shinobi shoots Hydra rockets at a p-19 s-125 sr (Flat Face B)
    2. p-19 s-125 sr takes multiple hits from Shinobi but doesn't get killed.
    3. Shinobi shoots Hydra rockets at a KrAZ6322 and is instantly killed.
    4. Shinobi shoots Hydra rockets at a Kub 1S91 str.
    5. Kub 1S91 str gets hit by Hydra rockets.
    6. Ural-375 gets hit by Hydra rockets.
    7. Kub 1S91 str is killed 17 seconds later, probably after a fire started. This event seems to be the cause of the crash.

    2/ August 31 - Pilot Shinobi does a run on ground units:
    1. Shinobi shoots his cannon at p-19 s-125 sr (Flat Face B)
    2. p-19 s-125 sr takes multiple hits from Shinobi
    3. Shinobi releases an Mk-82
    4. 4 seconds lates, KrAZ6322 gets hit by an AIM-120C (really?) and is instantly killed.
    5. Same moment, p-19 s-125 sr gets hit by an AIM-120C (probably the same).
    6. p-19 s-125 sr is killed 9 seconds later, probably after a fire started. This event seems to be the cause of the crash.

    I see 3 commonalities:

    A kill on a SAM radar sensor unit is the direct cause of the crash.
    Shinobi is responsible for those kills of the SAM radar sensor units.
    The bug is tied to these LUA functions:
    • wcColumn::setOnOff
    • woCar::setAI_ON
    • wWeaponSystemManager::setAI_ON
    • wWeaponSystemManager::initialSearchForPotentialTargets

    I think there's something odd in the function names. A SAM sensor has just died -> setOnOff should then turn it off -> setAI_ON is then called, why?-> initialSearchForPotentialTargets is launched as the SAM sensor has just died - this can't work.

      Thank you very much for the analysis. Looks like something maybe build into Pikes' IADS code. Unfortuately that is way over my head from a coding perspective. I'll go drop it in the Moose discord and see if he wants to take a look. Again thank you!

        Hi , in the DCS ISRAEL Server we just now had a similar crash with 37 clients connected and the mission was with the IADS script.

          You guys should report the issue on Skynet-IADS github (if you are using this particular IADS script, of course).

            Flappie, the group I fly with has noted the exact same crashes to our dedicated servers that use Skynet. Our internal testing has also shown that the crashes seem to be caused by damaged search radars burning for a time and then dying.

            Has anyone found a workaround for this problem?

            (I can provide additional logs if it helps, but they look more or less identical to the ones already posted)

              Hi Kortana. As I said above, you should report the bug on the official github, or on the official thread to warn the author.

                It is important that you realize that an access violation CTD is 99.9% a DCS issue and should be looked at by ED.

                Of course, it is good to inform the author of the lua script,so he can maybe have a look at a potential workaround. But it is certainly ED's job to eliminate the root cause of this issue.

                  To my knowledge, an access violation error can have an internal (genuine DCS bug) or an external cause (O.S., driver, memory, mod...).


                  So far, the bug we're talking about only happens to Skynet IADS users. I think the author of the mod is very well placed to know what this bug is about. Maybe he'll raise an internal DCS bug, maybe he'll fix a bug of his.

                    I still believe this is something ED should look into @flappie can you inform them?

                    For the meanwhile I have published an update to Skynet that prevents the crash from happening:

                      Thank you for your feedback, and for your fix as well (I'm a Skynet IADS user too).


                      EDIT: I was able to reproduce this bug WITHOUT Skynet IADS so it's definitely a DCS bug. Mission attached (unit AI OFF at T+65sec, unit burning at T+70sec, unit AI ON at T+75sec = DCS crash).

                                  Thanks for the fast response on this one. I was getting flak (no pun intended) from Skynet Users on the crashes resulting from the AI on off function.
