Bdoyle13
Hey folks, So I've been playing around with the F-18 and seem to have run in to some issues. I"m sure someone knows and it's an easy fix but I haven't been able to figure it out. I've got Chucks Guide and follow it step by step for startup and takeoff. However, I can't seem to build up speed fast enough and need to use the entire runway to take off. Also the plane keeps trying to pitch down. I look at the outside view and my rear stabilizers seem to pointed down and not flat. Also once in the air I can't get my speed above 160 with flaps and gear up. Edit: speed brakes are retracted as well. Thoughts and ideas? Thor_H
Could it be an issue of uncalibrated throttle? Does the axis move all the way in device manager? Tom Kazansky
Do you have another controller attached? Are you aware that you can display the control input axis by pressing "right ctrl + return" and check what Thor_H said with it?
Bdoyle13
I'll check those this afternoon. I have the TM Warthog throttle and stick attached atm. I thought i checked all the axis and they seem to work and when taking off I can see afterburners going and brakes off but slow as heck Asus Prime Z390-A Motherboard LGA1151 (Intel 8th and 9th Gen) Intel Core i7-9700K Coffee Lake 8-Core 3.6 GHz (4.9 GHz Turbo) Desktop Processor Intel UHD Graphics 630, 32gb DDR Ram CORSAIR Vengeance RGB Pro 16GB DDR4 DRAM , Water cooled 3080, Corsair H115i RGB Platinum AIO Liquid CPU Cooler, Intel 115X/2066, AMD AM4/TR4, Corsair CP-9020180-NA RMX Series RM850x 80 Plus Gold Fully Modular ATX Power Supply, 4 SSD 1TB
Spurts
sounds like a combination of issues. Possible axis contaminations, Special Setting of Always On Afterburner Detent, Parking brake, Game Mode flight model, and/or trim not being set for take-off. BuzzU
It sounds like your elevator axis is being shared with another contoller. Is rudder or throttle on the same axis? Buzz
Bdoyle13
I have seen that some AXIS controls were on numerous devices, no idea why my rudder had anything to do with the throttle set up. Would it be easier to clear all the fields and run TM target GUI? Just asking until I'm sitting in front of DCS again and can play with the settings some have mentioned. With regards to trim I do the rest on trim as per chucks guide. Bdoyle13
Can you post a track file? If I knew what that was I'd be happy to. Still familiarizing myself with DCS Asus Prime Z390-A Motherboard LGA1151 (Intel 8th and 9th Gen) Intel Core i7-9700K Coffee Lake 8-Core 3.6 GHz (4.9 GHz Turbo) Desktop Processor Intel UHD Graphics 630, 32gb DDR Ram CORSAIR Vengeance RGB Pro 16GB DDR4 DRAM , Water cooled 3080, Corsair H115i RGB Platinum AIO Liquid CPU Cooler, Intel 115X/2066, AMD AM4/TR4, Corsair CP-9020180-NA RMX Series RM850x 80 Plus Gold Fully Modular ATX Power Supply, 4 SSD 1TB
Ramsay
... once in the air I can't get my speed above 160 with flaps and gear up. Thoughts and ideas? Thanks Check in "Options\Gameplay" that • "Game Flight Mode" or • "Game Avionics Mode" ... hasn't been enabled. They cause similar issues to that which you describe. i9 9900K @4.9GHz, 64GB DDR4, RTX4070 12GB, 1+2TB NVMe, 6+4TB HD, 4+1TB SSD, Winwing Orion 2 F-15EX Throttle + F-16EX Stick, TPR Pedals, TIR5, Win 10 Pro x64, 1920X1080
Ramsay
Re: Posting a replay track - If I knew what that was I'd be happy to. Still familiarizing myself with DCS Select a F/A-18C Instant Action Mission i.e. • Instant Action > F/A-18C > Caucasus > "Ready on the Ramp" and test your controls, airspeed, etc. If you have issues use "Escape" and "Quit" the mission, in the "Debriefing" Screen there is an option to "SAVE TRACK". By default the .trk file will be saved in the "Save Games\DCS\Tracks" folder. You can then attach this .trk file (which includes the mission, your settings, key, mouse and control inputs, etc,) to a forum post (max size 5 MB). It'll allow DCS to replay the mission as if you were flying and for us to see your particular settings, etc. If the "Ready on Ramp" mission is ok, test if there's a problems with your start up procedure using the "Cold and Dark" mission, hopefully that'll be ok, but if not ... post that instead. i9 9900K @4.9GHz, 64GB DDR4, RTX4070 12GB, 1+2TB NVMe, 6+4TB HD, 4+1TB SSD, Winwing Orion 2 F-15EX Throttle + F-16EX Stick, TPR Pedals, TIR5, Win 10 Pro x64, 1920X1080
Bdoyle13
I took off / unchecked Game mode and Avionics and seemed to take off Ok. I'll do a bunch more today and try with and without those selected and then post a couple track files. Thanks for the info.
