AOA in DCS and in real video

Hi, nice article and video here:

https://sofrep.com/fightersweep/dogfighting-in-an-fa-18-hornet/

I'm not able to get as high AOA between 200-320kts (i mean same aoa at the same speed in DCS) AOA i got in DCS is lesser, what i done wrong? is it FM issue?

By ex:

In the video:

at 5min29 for 291Kts it gets 26.5° while in DCS for 293kts i got only 21.5°

at 5min30 it gets 33° for 237kts while in DCS i can't get a such AOA at higher speed than about 120-125kts (for 237kts i get about 27°)

Surely the FM dev team will find some other ex

5° more of AOA should be great for an angle/radius fighter at these low speed

Best regards

The AOA performance of hornet in DCS has been deliberately fudged, I think Wags said as much in an interview a while ago.

Hey Swift, after having this flagged, I chatted with Wags about this as I had never really heard this right from him.

What he said during an interview that there can be some sensitive areas, this includes the Hornet's high AOA low-speed capabilities. We want to be careful when driving towards more classified material not to share something that wasn't supposed to be shared.

That said, we have enough data on the Hornet that we don't need to fudge anything, as the data is all available from public sources, nothing will be fudged on the Hornet, and any issues with the Hornet right now are related to issues that still need to be addressed by the Hornet Team.

Thanks!

Great to hear NL. The real number definitely is out there in public, and doesn't seem classified.

Can't remember which episode of the FPP (or FB livestream), but the Charlie Hornet's AOA number was given (I forget exactly, but somewhere around 35°, and controllable even higher with roll rate being affected).

I remember being surprised by that more than the number distinctly because there was a moment of "wait, can we talk about this? Oh we can..", and how that was seemingly different to what the Wags' interview suggested.

Edit: found it

I do recall reading the thing Swift is talking about, some time ago. But I'm glad to hear that it will (might?) be revisited for the upcoming FM changes. It's public data, after all. Here's hoping.
