AN/ARC-210 Radio

Flagrum

Recommended Posts

Wags states in the feature list that the AN/ARC-210 will come later after the initial release of A-10C II.

This indicates, that the new radio is more complex than just a few selecors/dials and LCDs to set the desired frequency. I assume, it is pilot-programmable of some sort? Where can I find more details about this radio and it's capabilities?

From what I've read it has UHF, VHF, & SATCOM capabilities.

My question from just watching Wags video where he gave a cockpit introduction: If we don't have the ARC-210 will the A-10C II have the old UHF radio to use till the new one is complete?

It will have the uhf even after the arc-210 is complete. The arc-210 is replacing the vhf-am slot.

Data sheet here. A-10 will have the full sized remote control head:

The blank in Wags video is not big enough for the Arc-210. The arc-210 will replace the blank and the old vhf-am. See around 29:00 mark of this video:

It is but the way its integrated with the A10 is different.

And yea besides just the physical radio panel there should also be a MFD page related to the ARC210 functions titled "comm"

There were TWO TCTOs associated with the ARC-210 radios.

TCTO 1A-10C-513 Installation of Integrated ARC-210 on A-10C Aircraft - 1 May 09

and

TCTO 1A-10C-526 Installation of Second AN/ARC-210 (ARC-210-2) Radio System on

A-10C Aircraft - 31 Dec 10

The question will be what TCTOs have been applied to our A-10C II. If BOTH have been accomplished, we will have 1 Control Head controling TWO ARC-210 Radios.

Speculation alert: I believe I saw the new hotas commands and the mic switch still listed on three PTT positions, so that is awesome to know IRL, I would be surprised if we get the dual arc-210 radios.

Since it will take out the VHF AM Slot and the blank panel that makes me think its probably a C-12561A Full height Control unit.

Yes its definitely the full control head.

I had an unverified thought regarding the two radio/1 head question. It is possible the arc-210 can monitor with one radio and monitor+transmit on the other, so still be 1 mic switch but two radios. So time will have to tell.

Nope with two ARC-210s you transmit by...

Mic switch FWD - Transmit ARC-210-1

Mic switch Down - Transmit ARC-164

Mic switch AFT - Transmit ARC-210-2

So in that configuration, would it follow that the ARC-210 full head controls ARC-210-1 and -2, the ARC-164 is unchanged... and is the "current" VHF-FM ARC-186 is removed?

Yes. The control head manages both of the RTs (receiver/transmitters). You switch the active RT through the RT SELECT button on the top right of the unit.

Interestingly, on my KC-135s the control head is rarely turned on and the crew just manages them through the CDUs.

For dcs, the most significant change it will bring is access to a second uhf freq.

Currently you are limited to one vhf-am, one uhf and one vhf-fm.

With the new arc-210, single, you will have one uhf, one vhf-fm, and the arc-210 which can be uhf or vhf.

Probably zero benefit for single player but for multiplayer environments with atc, range control, other flights, jtacs, afacs, etc, having more flexibility will be very nice.

Fascinating! I wonder if dcs A-10C will recreate that connection. Would certainly make my cockpit update simpler if they do!

Asa person who knows nothing about radios, what is the real world ARC-210 about, and what advantages will it bring in game?

The real ARC-210 is a software defined radio that covers a lot of spectrum. The same radio (in it's newest version) can handle most everything from 30 MHz FM to 800 MHz public safety bands.
