I kinda doubt they are going to go on a fake name account zapping spree when they are trying to expand their customer base. Yeah they might do it, if they really just want some level of baseline clean data and don't care about how much market share they lose, but it's not like facebook is famous for enforcing their own rules.

I haven't read it tbh, I'm just repeating. But I find it unlikely that it's limited to only fake accounts. Recently I received a spam mail from an old work colleague. He was giving up his 20 years email account because they changed their statement and required him to further provide more personal details, which he refused and was banned. If the story is true, Idk. It's just something that could also likely happen in facebook's world I guess.

Do you think that facebook is worth billions today because of its VR marketshare or its users database? IMO, they just changed their Oculus strategy to better suit their actual marketshare, users.

I said this couple times already but all the personal data collection is changing. For the worst. Not just Facebook... everyone.

For all voice assistants to work, Google, Siri, Alexa, Cortana... they have to listen ALL THE TIME in order to be activated by voice keyword. Your devices are always listening to you. This is how data is collected now. For this to work, they need hardware. Android phones for Google, Echo for Amazon...

Facebook currently doesn't have listening hardware and wants to join the party with Quest 2. I believe this is why Facebook aggressively priced Quest 2. And for this to work, they need real personal info. Not fake accounts.

I think you're right about the spying and pricing. I guess we'll have to wait and see how serious they are about having real identities. From what I know about data mining they can predict what you'll do next and how to best sell the ads to modify your behavior before you even know what you're going to do (get divorced, get cancer, take a loan, buy a car, or have a bowel movement) all without knowing your name.

One thing they might need a selected small set of real names for though it's test their behavior/influencing models in a tighter lab. In that case, yeah they might crack down hard and not care how much VR business they lose

I already have a fb account, I have an android phone and some amazon alexa devices at my home, I also have a PC windows and I use cortana, so everyone is already spying me, no big issues for what I'm concerned. I'm more concerned about data compression through oculus link cable leading to a worst image quality on PC despite good hmd resolution. According to the reviews I've seen, Quest 2 Is not the best device for PC use. It's a device focused on the standalone experience and a lot of interesting titles have been announced, but PC experience Is an ancillary function and not the main one. As someone interested mainly in PC VR, I think maybe there are better options, reverb g2 being one of those.

Do you think playing a game with a processor on the head is healthy?

Retina display less than in inch away from your eyes doesn't seem healthy either but I'm sure none of us are doing this to be healthy.

We have GSMA, LTE, 5GHz, 2.4GHz, all creating cancer in us. What's a little processor on your head?

And let's not forget that 5G basically sucks your soul out of you if Internet is to be believed

                      Let's see . $1300-1500 ( or more ) for a G2 and a 3080 , vs $400 for the highest version Quest .

You really think that you can omit a proper graphic card? Link is just means of communicating the signal wireless, something still needs to fill and render those pixels - efficiently, I might add. I don't think there is yet a free lunch, particularly not from Zuckerberg and the likes.

Anyone used this with dcs yet? I know before anyone says it that its notgoing to be a flawless high res experience but it does seem promising. Thinking of picking one up until next year when pc parts and the G2 will hopefully be more readily available and fairly priced.

I have had a quick flight in it this afternoon. If I’m honest I can’t see any real difference in visual quality to my Rift S I’ve been using. Which is disappointing. Thinking it’s my settings though, as other programs and movies in particular are night and day, so so much clearer.

Will be testing it again later tonight.

Yep, i've now disconnected my CV1 and now solely use the quest 2. You are now able to change the compression using the debug tool. Resolution is excellent considering the cost of the headset. I'm running it on a i7 8700k and a 1080ti. As far as linked with facebook goes, not happy about it but it seems the way of the future. Apparently the Quest 2 has now been hacked so that may get around that issue.

Yep, the Quest 2 is looking good and it's not even rendering at it's native resolution yet. It's going to be interesting to see it when facebook releases the Q2's handbrake!

Not sure if you all saw this video...I was hoping for more Quest 2 reviews. I hate the FB requirement but for the price for mobile and PCVR, I might sell my soul LOL, I'm on the fence. I currently have CV1 and desperately need a new HMD, wanting the HP G2 but it's a little steep and I only have a 1080ti to boot, not sure if it can handle.

I tried IL-2 with my Quest 1 some time ago, but when Link first became available and was surprised how well it did,
If they keep on improving it I imagine it will be very nice.
