How to make low cost panels...

I dont have so much money to buy all panels for my pit so i needed to find a way to create panels fast an cheap, keeping in mind that i want to be robust.

So i have found a way to do this:

First print panels on photo paper or with a color laser printer to have the best colors possible.

attachment.php?attachmentid=26350&stc=1&d=1315900021

Then cut out the panel

attachment.php?attachmentid=26351&stc=1&d=1315900021

Place the printed panel into a laminator pouches (Not shure of the google translation!)

attachment.php?attachmentid=26352&stc=1&d=1315900021

Add another panels if they fit, and place in the laminator.

attachment.php?attachmentid=26353&stc=1&d=1315900021

attachment.php?attachmentid=26354&stc=1&d=1315900021

Cut out again the laminated panels...

attachment.php?attachmentid=26355&stc=1&d=1315900021

Cut a white plexiglass to fit the panel dimensions

attachment.php?attachmentid=26356&stc=1&d=1315900021

Put some glue on it and place the laminated panel over it.

attachment.php?attachmentid=26357&stc=1&d=1315900021

Here is the result

attachment.php?attachmentid=26358&stc=1&d=1315900021

The good point is that panels made this way have a better resistance to scratches, the time will say if the ink resits well to UV too.

Here are the panels i have, they are from A-10A, so, some are not accurate

If someone have CMSP CDU VHF and Warn panels, i'm searching them.

Updated!

Hi Icemaker. Got my versions of CMSP, VHF and Warning quad posted here: http://www.strandedduckling.com/html/quad_ref.html

Agree that some of the oldies needs adjustments. Most of'em in the bundle been updated several versions since those you got there and not all is posted. Ping me with suggestions of improvments/updates and I'll do my best :-)

I started to minimize the overlay "white areas" also prior to printing them to avoid missing the center of baseplate and lightpanels. Alignment is a bitch using the crude tools I got at hand

Cheers

Gus

Avlolga, please keep in mind for future reference that when quoting someone with pictures, most of us don't need to see the pics twice Especially if you are only replying with some smilies. Double posting the pictures uses up bandwidth.

This is an awesome way of doing it. I tested using flat clear spray paint on a laminated panel I cut out and the flat clear knocks off the shine and looks more real and may help with uv

This is cool. I don't have a laminator, or even a printer, so here's how I've managed in the past:

Step 1. Take the artwork on a CD, and a chunk of material, to photo store and tell them to laminate the one onto the other, and to trim flush, no borders.

Step 2. Center punch and drill the holes.

Here's a sample artwork:

The textured bckground is intentional btw.

Cheers,

Colin
