STP Dragon
Hi guys, Last weekend I was in Spangdahlem Airbase (Open House) and got some very interesting informations. It seems like the A-10c pilots using the Head Mounted Display (HMD). Sadly I missed to ask a pilot how it is working and what he is able to do with it. Do anybody of you know the features? Is it possible to create a SPI on a specific point you'r looking at? I don't think that ED will add this feature to the Warthog so we need a mod for it. If we can collect as many informations as possible, maybe someone can create a good mod for this. What do you mean? aaron886
Wow... great info! That would be very difficult to do, even if some cockpit lua code could be "borrowed" from DCS:BS. It would be pretty cool if ED would take that on, but I'm sure they're as busy as always!
mvsgas
I do not think the A-10C is capable of using the JHMCS. The F-16 station at Spangdahlem AB are. I'm no expert and could not tell you for sure. But I would assume they put the helmets side by side just for display. I assume this since the A-10 does not appear to have the sensor the JHMCS uses to detect movement and I have never seen a A-10 pilot wearing one. No sensor on the side of the canopy click on images to enlarge (U.S. Air Force photo/Airman 1st Class Matthew B. Fredericks) (U.S. Air Force photo/Senior Airman Nancy Hooks) Here you can see the sensor on the left side of the canopy, over the pilot (U.S. Air Force photo/Airman 1st Class Daniel Phelps) Here is another look. Again left side of the canopy (U.S. Air Force photo/Staff Sgt. Nathan Bevier) Same sensor on the F-15 (U.S. Air Force photo/Staff Sergeant Tabitha Kuykendall) another angle, left side of canopy. (U.S. Air Force photo/Airman 1st Class Jason J. Brown) With that said, JHMCS can be used as a sensor, so it can be used as SOI and it would be able to designate targets like any other SOI...AFAIK JHMCS video at 2:32. Snoopy
Mvsgas is correct the A-10c is not capable and last I heard there is no future funding (at the moment, things like this are subject to change) for JHMCS. v303d Fighter Group Discord | Virtual 303d Fighter Group Website | v303rd Fighter Group Twitter
STP Dragon
OK, I got the information from the guy on this booth, not from a pilot. I didn't know that you need a separate sensor on the left side also. On the photos you can't see a sensor like that. BUT... mvsgas
Ok, many contracts awarded, can anyone find the news of the testing? Snoopy
Contracts are awarded everyday that don't end up making it on the ACFT. Again, can't say 100% for spang but everyone I asked at Moody stated it isn't funded for the A-10, maybe they meant at Moody don't know. It's the same as OBOGs, we aren't getting it at Moody but Spang has it. Things like this change all the time. The A-10 has had contracts awarded and items funded multiple times for new engines (and other various mods) but they never actually happen. The issue with DCS A-10C having it is that it's modeled after the Suite 3 software and we're up to Suite 7 real world. Suite 7 currently doesn't have it and suite 3 certainly didn't. mvsgas
Do you know any name of A-10C Reservs or ANG bases or FW? Maybe if we look at their sites we can find pics. Just a thought. Snoopy
Dragon...from the pics (I couldn't see them at work) it looks like it was a life support display (looks like chute and possibly NVG case) so it could be an A-10 and a A-16 helmet. I forgot I've got a former coworker stationed at Spang so I emailed them to see if they could give me any incite into if the A-10 is using the new helmet/display. Funny thing is a few pics I've seen from the static (VSquadron mates that went) they have big Suite 4 stickers on the jets. Like I said earlier we're upgrading to Suite 7 at Moody and no mention of this helmet yet. v303d Fighter Group Discord | Virtual 303d Fighter Group Website | v303rd Fighter Group Twitter
hog_driver111th
Paul, is there a major difference between Suite 3 and 7, and do you think DCS would be upgraded to be close to the real world Suite? Laud
Paul, is there a major difference between Suite 3 and 7, and do you think DCS would be upgraded to be close to the real world Suite? I hope DCS will not! Suite 3 is fine for me! Just by the current patches things constantly tend to change, which I find somehow contra-productive for a steep learning curve! ;) :music_whistling: [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Asus ROG STRIX Z390-F Gaming, Intel Core i7 9700k , 32gb Corsair DDR4-3200 Asus RTX 2070 super, Samsung 970 EVO Plus M2, Win10 64bit, Acer XZ321QU (WQHD) TM HOTAS Warthog, SAITEK Rudder Pedals, TIR
Evil.Bonsai
Not sure if this is the same but there's info on the webs about upgrading/using a 'scorpion helmet mounted cueing system' in the precision updgrade.
