My warthog extender

Recommended Posts

Having my warthog between my legs and seeing some talk about extenders I decided to make one to see if I like it.

Right now I have it mounted on my own base between my legs. It doesn't get in the way when seated but makes it a bit harder to get in and out of the pit.

It also looks like a good way to rotate the stick that 10/15 degrees without using the software/target option which I don't want to do.

Anyway, I thought some might be interested and it's a bit different from my last efforts with the ipad.

So far I have done the top connecter using some scrap that wasn't useful for anything else so it looks a bit precarious in the lathe in the pic.

It is bored out to accept carbon fibre tube that I have left over from another project. The M36x2 thread is a bot longer than needed for the stick's mount because I will make a lock nut so that I can put it at the 10 degrees and make sure it doesn't move.

The total extender will weigh under 5 oz for extending 9". I will have mine shorter though.

Here is the top, I will try to do the bottom tomorrow.

Guys, I will make a finished one and show, then you can decide of you want one.

I don't know how much it will cost as I have to see how long it takes to make them, as it's not software I can't sell my time twice so dont expect it to be $20 or something.

I was thinking that it would include the full extension with your choice of length (within reason and shipping issues) and I could probably make up and sell the internal cable for an extra $10.

Reply if interested and I will get another pic up.

I don't expect his to be under 75 US. Machine time is valuable. Even owning his own machine, one breakdown will set him back a lot of money. I hope he factors that into his cost.

@ metalnwood. Do you have the 5 pin connection cable? Or are you making you own?

Krebs, no, I was going to use a 6 pin mini din and pull out the sixth pin.

Also, you would be around the right ballpark price wise. It will not be more than $75 though. I expect it to be at least $60 without the cable. So if you were prepared to spend $65 you would probably get it.

Hello metalwood. Don't sell your self short, If you make the extension in CF and with electicic cable extention too, then you should be paid for it. I think your time is not being judged by the WANT!!If you decide to sell them, The demand will be great.. I want at least Serial #2, lol Cheers, Jim..If I can help, Just holler....LOUD..:megalol: P.S. Just read where you will do it in Aluminum, Is CF still and option??? I would buy that!! and +1 rep for your skills....

OK, if I sell them this is what you will get. Two adaptors, some aluminium tube and an allen key (because it's metric).

it took a bit longer to make as threading the blind hole took a little bit of time. It is not exactly quick to make them so I think the price will be the $75 plus shipping. No cable included but I could make you up one.
