MAIN TRANSMISSION OIL PRESSURE alert

hi,

i must have changed something in my startup procedure today.

don't know what. can you help me.

as the manual says, i do the following:

1. turn on batteries (AC/DC).

2. turn on intercom.

3. turn on the ekran and hydraulic system (master warning light pops up with main gearbox red light turned on). is this ok? the manual does not say it would turn on.

4. check all lights.

5. turn on navigation and cockpit lights.

6. turn on the abris.

7. turn on k-041.

8. set pvi into operation mode.

9. turn on wcs.

10. adf initial setup.

11. turn on uv-26 (countermeasures system).

12. turn on vhf-2.

13. request permission for engine start from control tower.

14. check vmu (the audio message is not what the manual says?)

15. enable fuel meter.

16. close the door.

17. open apu fuel shut-off valve.

18. open fuel tank boost pumps (aft, fwd).

19. start the apu.

20. wait 1 minute for warmup before turning on the engines.

21. disengage the rotor brake.

22. open left engine fuel shut-off value.

23. turn on eeg for left engine.

24. start left engine and wait till it gets to 20% (through the rpm gauge).

25. open left engine cut-off lever.

after that, the audio message "check ekran" plays twice. on the

ekran, i see the messages "MAIN TRANSMISSION OIL PRESSURE"

and "LEFT TRANSMISSION OIL PRESSURE".

what am i doing wrong?

am i getting the hydraulic system up and running correctly?

am i rushing some part of the startup procedure?

thanks in advance!

Is there pressure showing on the guages ? Is the message still there if you lift the engine throttle levers to the "auto" position ?

Main hydraulics switch on back panel should be "down"

The Main Hydraulics are on by default, so you're switching them off.

where? i thought it was the same switch as the ekran.

yeah, i just tried that (started the apu and left engine with throttle on auto).

The Ekran shouldn't be switched mode until you finish start up, it should be one of the last things you do. Also turning off the Hydraulics Doesn't Help ;)

Nate

i think i'm not turning off the hydraulics. i turn on the

hydraulics/transmission group and ekran power

supply switch, as the manual says. look at the

screenshot (from the manual). it says to turn it on

just after the batteries.

“ВМГ ГИДРО ЭКРАН – ОТКЛ” (Hydraulics/transmission
group and EKRAN power supply) switch [LCTRL +
LSHIFT + N] and cover. [LALT + LCTRL + LSHIFT + N]
Provides power to EKRAN Warning System, hydraulics,
and transmission group control sensors."

i also recorded a track (attached to this message),

so you can see what i'm doing.

if you have the time to watch it, i would be thankful!

Step 3 as you have it laid out, I assume you are reffering to the Aux panel on the right rear, It is a power supply switch for Ekran/Hydro. Its function is that of a servicability test. Yes you will see the warning, and yes it is meant to. Keep in mind that the actual Hydraulics Switch on the wall panel right is already on as mentioned above.

thanks Reaper, so all that you said should be in the manual,

right? well, i will simply ignore what the manual says and will

not turn on the hydraulics/transmission group and ekran

power supply.

sincerely, i would like to know why they put that step in their

startup sequence without mentioning it would cause a lot of

alarms to fire up.

i'm feeling that the product i bought isn't yet a "study sim".

If you are referring to the warning on EKRAN when you start is typical in most aircraft (at least the ones I have work on) that warning light will illuminate like that. Most warning system or light will be very simple, that way they will work with minimal power to ensure system reliability. Because they are simple they will not know whether you are causing the problem or not, just know that there is a problems, so they warn you about it. I do not work on helicopters but I suspect that it is normal, even on the real thing.

You only have a problem if warning stays on. Then you should look for the cause of the problem to troubleshoot.

To whom it may concern,

I am an idiot, unfortunately for the world, I have a internet connection and a fondness for beer....apologies for that.

Thank you for you patience.

Maybe we can get a hold of Kamov and see if they would sell us the operational manual of a KA-50. I thought about it but I figure if I e-mail them they would just laugh and ignore me.

If you have a good look at the hydraulice pressure guages, then as you opperate the throttles you'll see the pressure rise. If, when you raise the throttles to Auto, the indicator needle is in the green sector, you don't have a problem.

thanks Reaper, so all that you said should be in the manual,

right? well, i will simply ignore what the manual says and will

Then your Ekran won't function correctly.

"The EKRAN can be activated by setting the “ВМГ ГИДРО ЭКРАН” (Power plant, hydraulics, EKRAN self-test systems) switch [LCTRL + LSHIFT + N] (located on the bottom portion of the auxiliary control panel) to the down position."

Cheers.

  • 2 years later...

Is it possible to break the engine on startup if you do something wrong?

I tried starting the right engine while the left was spooling, and both engines shut down. Selected L engine again and started it normally. Selected right engine and all I get are rising EGT dials but no N%. I got the usual main transmission oil pressure alert but the hydraulics and left engine are ON.

Did I make broke my toy? :P
