F-Pole

Recommended Posts

I was clearing out some ancient data recently in preparation for a Windows 10 upgrade when I came across an ancient track (Flanker 2.0!) that was an example of the first pole technique for BVR missile attacks.

I seem to remember the F-pole technique being quite popular back in Flanker 2.0 / 2.5 days but I can barely find any references to it any more. Does anyone use this technique these days? If so, in general terms how do you use it?

As an aside, I can see it potentially being quite effective for use with the R-27ER since the missile is so fast compared to say an AIM-120.

Edited to add: my intention in posting this is not to create another R-27ER v AIM-120 thread :)
