The thing is, helicopters are different from planes. An airplane by it's nature wants to fly, and if not interfered with too strongly by unusual events or by a deliberately incompetent pilot, it will fly. A helicopter does not want to fly. It is maintained in the air by a variety of forces in opposition to each other, and if there is any disturbance in this delicate balance the helicopter stops flying; immediately and disastrously.

It's instantaneus usually, you should see modified parameters in the static weather setting. If nothing happen, that could be an error.

I'll look at it asap.

EDIT:

just performed full sweep of all the airports. Apart of those can't retrieve the metar string (it's an issue of the online service I'm linking with, can't be corrected :(), I found strange issues with Gudauta, Kobuleti, Soganlung, Vaziani & Beslan. It's strange cause I don't have this issue in the previous code. I'll fix it asap.

It seems to be working for Kutaisi and Batumi but when I try to use it for missions starting at Kobuleti nothing happens so maybe it's just a bug with that airfield. Thanks for offering this and I'll be looking forward to using it considering it does not use dynamic weather which has been a real frame rate killer for me in the past.

By the way, I'll be checking HERE to see how well it works. :music_whistling:

Worked first time for me...downloaded the metar data and loaded it.

First flight out of Sukhumi....a pea souper at ground level.

Very nice addon which should probably be included in main program features.

Well done and thanks

The site its this one, Blooze :):

Anyway, I found the issue, it seems that sometimes they found the ICAO code but can't provide the complete metar string to be parsed. That lead to a successful first data filter followed by errors due to lack of sufficient information.

I'll fix the download link asap.

The previous post report the airports that today are not working due to the explained issue.

PS: if someone could suggest a better site to download metar string, I will be happy to try to modify the metar parsing code I'm using (which is the great Tuomas Jormola metar library)

Fixed, now it will give the same error message from any airport where the metar string can't be parsed.

thanks to your feedback I was able to find this issue and I'm investigating further about site issues. I should be able to update the link to a rev 3 when further controls has been completed :)

Download link has been updated to rev.3.

Fixes:

- filter airports where ICAO data are incomplete

- check wind direction span

I tried multiple times a full sweep of the airports, and all of them give either a working result or a metar non accessible answer. Anyway, I tried many possibile metar strings, but obviously I can't try the infinite ;). Your support will be invaluable in this process :)

Question, will this mod update weather in real time as a mission progresses or will the weather become static after the mission has begun and remain the same throughout the mission and constant with the entire Georgian map?

This mod doesn't change the static weather system, it simply parse the metar string data and apply it to the mission editor. Therefore, no, it won't update the weather during the mission, it will only download and apply the current observed weather when you press the button, and constant in the entire map as now.

I'm looking forward for upgrades in the DCS weather engine: I will upgrade the mod to any kind of features that are going to be implemented by ED. If future engine will allow multiple weather in multiple place... you won't need to choose the airport ;)

very nice thing!

is it possible to optional load the date/time as well?

it wouldnt be worth the workload maybe, as those two things are done fast anyway, but i'm courious ;)

I think it would be possibile, i.e. it will already change the season accordingly to the sim date. I choose to do not update the date for mission design reason, but if most of you think that it could be an improvement more then a limitation, I will integrate it in a future update :)

After trying it for a while there seems to be fog at every airport even though on local webcam views there is none.

I'll check this asap: it should enable fog only if it's reported in the metar. If not, that could be a bug. I'm sorry that I didn' found those thing during my test .

EDIT: confirmed but it's strange cause fog is still disabled. I'll post a workaround asap. (will still be rev.3)

Thank you all for the feedbacks.

Confirmed fog issue fixed.

A few observations so far...spring always loaded..not really an issue but interferes with terrain mods a bit.

Still dont get weather from some airports..seems random.

Crosswinds act funny...restarted the same mission with same weather to have my nose blown to the opposite side of the runway.

But all in all a wonderful mod which adds beauty and realism to our game.

ED should look at this seriously.

Thanks a bunch

For a different purpose I had build a wheater model based upon kutaisi 2012 weather data. Part of the model was the season separation, so the season will change to summer... soon, can't remember the calendar exact day :music_whistling:.

Do you (all) think that could be better if season remain untouched?

Still dont get weather from some airports..seems random.

Well, I believe that all depends from the metar string transmission from the real airport to the site service. Usually Georgian airport are often served, so as Sochi or Anapa. Instead, I rarely found service from some russian airport.. i.e., Novorossysk can't transmit metar such often, cause...

As previously said, this mod won't interfere in any way with DCS current standard weather system. So, that could be due to high turbolence.. or something else :)

For some reason its not changing anything with me. It appears in the Mission Editor but when I indicate that I want to download weather, it doesn't do anything. I have rev 3.
