Hi guys, here is my little contribution to the DCS community : DCS Building HD overhaul.

 

HOTFIX FOR DCS 1.5 AND 2.0 TO ALLOW INVISIBLE LOD TRANSITION

 

Here it is : you just have to replace the current .lua in your mod directory Config/terrain/... by those ones https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B8Wfkj5nEKIGLVZvS0hFQlI2MTQ/view?usp=sharing

Before anything : I'd like to thank Mustang for having given me the permission to use some of his FC2 building mod Textures, they really were very useful.

FINAL VERSION (or nearly, some buildings may be added in the year...) :

The mod features :

 

- 21 retextured buildings, from 2048 to 4096 resolution (nearly all the towns building except some little, rare, and not so ugly ones)..

- Very efficient mipmaping (I hope), with no clipping even at far distance.

- Near LOD and distant LOD.

- This mod includes 5 .lua files changing the view distance, compatible with more-visbility. The concerned lines are the 58 and 59, distance was put to 3500 and 3000 to ensure a nice transition between distant and near LOD (actually nearly invisible for me in 4k) ! Changing those lines if you use another mod and wish to keep the old .lua is imperative, cause if you don't, you'll notice the transition.

- Obviously compatible with JSGME.

 

 

 

Anyway I don't suggest to use this mod if you don't have the computer to make DCS currently work in Medium/High, at least 4 Gb RAM is recommended. Sure you could try it, I'm interested in the performances (poll) ;).

For the modders, the files which were modified are :

 

1) The .lua findable in the Config directory, dealing with the low, medium, high, very high, ultra high and extreme graphic configuration as seen before.

2) Differents textures all findable in the Bazar/terrain/vfstextures/building_textures.zip :

 

- Block_texture.bmp.dds, which is the distant LOD map, just have a look at it, and you'll understand why it was so long to complete this part :p.

The tip : for the differents home (there are many "home" files, around 40...) The number Which follows the "home" is the number of floors, except for the 51-52-53. Good luck if you wish to try it, my textures are free of use, just, if you make a mod using some of them, don't forget to put me in the credits, and currently mustang too because some textures are from him ;)

The white roof is because of a little mistake with the levels in totoshop, i'll correct it

 

@mustang : the hardest part is to find the textures, i used some of yours, but some weren't in HD, so... There are some textures websites, but if you don't want to pay there aren't many ressources...

 

to compare, the last building is the one on right in this screen ;)

Dimitriov! You're great. A mod like this should have been done long before. Some friends are working on buildings mod (including Ricardo), but no result yet.

 

I did some works on the tallest two buildings (especially for helicopter pilots), but I couldn't finish it, because of distance problem.

 

I think every building 3D model has two texture that is being switched according to distance between viewer and object. I'm stuck there. :)

 

You're doing great job, I hope you'll release soon. :D

For the distant lod it's quite easy, in the "building_texture.zip", you find the "block_texture.bmp.dds".

 

The very very very hard part is to make both LODs perfectly match.

 

I'm too trying to make some "progressive" textures, i'm quite much sure it's possible, but I still don't know how to.

 

Once the near LOD will be completed, I may have 50-100 hours of work to make a perfect LOD transition... For actually 25-30 buildings --' . Honestly, if someone is interested in some cooperation, it may be welcome for the distant lod ^^.

 

I yet did it for an old version, but textures weren't in HD and I did it for 2-3 buildings.

Considering we may be waiting a long time for EDGE and new maps we need all the help we can get to spice up Georgia. This looks like one of the best mods I have seen and I am looking forward to installing it. My personal thanks to all of the modders that have worked hard to bring us all the new eye candy. I don't ever get enough.

Hi guys !

 

I'm actually working on a complete overhaul of the DCS building textures, compatible with jsgme obviously.

 

Actually, I still have to make 3-4 buildings and all the ones which are between 2 and 16 floors high will be completed.

 

Some of these textures are taken from the old FC2 Mustang Mod, but unhappily uncompatible with DCS. (and thank you mustang for your permission ;) )

 

I didn't see any kind of FPS loss, probably due to the actual engine which doesn't really care about the gpu and focuses on the cpu.

 

Ah yes, and sorry for the bad english ;)

 

Many screens ;) (some are still WIP, and other, like the hotel, will probably will be replaced) :

 

...

 

I'll come for you when all the near LOD are done, I'll then have to make the far LOD, which is the hardest.
