Scarecrow
I haven't used any mods in DCS world and was wondering if somebody could put together a list of essential mods for 1.2.4, I've fallen way behind the times with the mod scene and I can't tell whats World and whats pre-World mods. Any help would be much appreciated
Mustang
Try this one for size - the attached file contains newly adjusted sky colour effects (grey band on horizon and white haze over terrain is removed) better HDR, along with enhanced terrain rendering (terrain now blends correctly to horizon) I've created other versions of these files in the past but this is more of a final version. Simply open the file with WinRAR and copy the folders directly into the DCS main directory. EDIT: please re-download the attachment if you've already installed it, the previous version had a tiny bug, now resolved. EDIT 2: High.lua removed from package. EDIT 3: updated hdr.fx with corrections to light diffuse values. Other good mods to look for: Corrected FC3 flyables HD pits Reworked Cockpit Views with proper Neck 6DOF for FC3 Increased overcast draw distance modification these are just some of my favorites. NRG-Vampire
Ooooooo! Good thread. All the mods should be posted here. sorry Mustang but your previous "Corrected FC3 flyables HD pits" does work with current versions ? (1.2.4) and will work with 1.2.5 ? (i guess you test 1.2.5 already) coz since you released your mod some cockpit have been changed - i mean we got new Su-27 and Su-25 pits, however i think your mod is not changed the old A-10A pit so does your mod good for 1.2.4-1.2.5 ? for old MiG-29, Su-33 and Su-25T pit ? - without changing something on the new pits (only 3 old, "non-3D-6DOF" pit remained in the sim) and Russian voice comms pack ? i dont know (not checked) but is it in 1.2.4 already officially ? Speed
Does anyone who joined a MP-game has to have installed every single mod I have installed, when I am hosting? Only if the mod modifies the files that are integrity checked. There are very few files that are integrity checked- by default, Config/Weapons and Scripts/compile.lua. No mods that I am aware of modify these files. Now, as server host, you can expand your integrity check to cover other files, and some server hosts do that- especially server hosts that run player-vs-player missions. Still, most mods are OK even with expanded integrity checks. Intelligent discourse can only begin with the honest admission of your own fallibility. Crazyowl
Hi all. Thanks for putting these post. I have never use MODS cause I'm afraid in 2 things: 1: If I put MODS, every time there's and DCS update the update wont work cause of the MODS. 2: I will have to erase the mods one by one or reinstall everything again. For that reason I haven look further in MODS explanations so leaving all DCS sim's as they are. So how this work and whats the correct or best procedure to install and unistall without damaging the hold program? Those this MODS posted in this forum works for today version? Thanks again. <S> C.O.
Watari
1. Customize snapviews!! <<<< Not really a mod but very essential for BS if you have only 1 screen. I mapped it on the stick so i can switch very fast between shkval in fullscreen and my default cockpit view. 2. setting your HMS reticle on mouse pointer 3.diveplanes soundmod http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=92598 4. HUD only sight (no skhval and abris) 5. Migos Shkval. the best shval mod out there!! 6. I also love diveplanes brightness landscape mod. you can make the terrain darker or brighter. the brighter textures having a very good contrast in shkval and the darker textures giving a better athmosphere. Crazyowl
You should use JSGME. I just started using it and I LOVE IT!! You can install any mod with a little added work removed and add on the fly and you can keep your mods with updates. Devrim
...I have never use MODS cause I'm afraid in 2 things...In my opinion, you're missing many things Crazyowl. I like to install/reinstall or uninstall mods by manually. Because some mods consist only one zip file. It's easy to drag and drop. And I keep a list which mods are installed on my DCS. And; Some mods don't consist a file. It's just a line. I'd like to find the file and replace the line. I like it because I'm a php programmer. I've learned/started it via php forum editing. bla bla... Whatever!; I think you should use mods, you'll see DCS will be better in every aspect. I don't whant to stard dowloading stuuf that don't work. Any official mods that work with the last update? Thanks and <S>
Skulleader
Hello guys, for example the mod for better head position don't work with the last upgrade of DCS, is this correct? Crazyowl, I confirm that the Mod "Reworked Cockpit Views with proper Neck" work fine with the last version of DCS 1.2.4. Noj
Problem here is that some recommended mods will overwrite others. For example, Mustang's "sky and terrain" file replaces the "High.lua" in Config/terrain, but so does the "Ultra high visibility" mod by Lightningstrike (linked to in post #8 ). So will have to use one or the other - or try and compare the two and edit one to include the other's settings, if possible. Which would probably be a PITA (I haven't checked yet) but in any case it warrants bearing in mind ;)

Noj
Probably - I use Textpad myself - it may have a similar function but I only ever used it for editing lua files and the like, so I don't know. Of course, Notepad++ is free, so probably more useful to most folks.
