It was, I was just kidding :)

seems we're all having memory lapses this morning... back around page 2, Sith (I'm sure it was you, I could be wrong though) in a could be related sense

Anyways... I'm sure RRG will pick a convincing point to start from and work forward from there. Given success and time we'll all have our wishlist see reality

change is good

It can be. It can also be bad. There was a big change in Germany in the early 1930s; I don't think you'll find many people who'd call it a good one. Ditto for the USA in 2001. Not that I'm trying to connect RRG with Hitler (lol godwin) or anything daft like that; just pointing out that change can be good or bad, with an extreme example that doesn't leave a lot of grey area for debate. : )

I'll drink to that! The FW 190D alone is enough to make me giddy. Focke-Wulf 190 isn't one of my top five, but it is one of my top ten. As for RRG: judging from his posts, Luthier seems to have a genuine love of flight (something I always felt Mr. Maddox lacked), so I have a careful optimism for what he'll do in DCS. CloD was his first big project, right, so one shouldn't black-mark him if things didn't go entirely to plan. To a glowing future for flight sims!

I've been thinking the same thing. Definitely saw some world domination desires, and possibly a hint of anti-dentite :) tendencies in Luthier's plan to bring the most realistic WWII sim to us.

I mean, september 1st, helloo? :D

On a more serious note, when you have a developer who is genuinely in love with aviation, you have the best chances that he will deliver.

I prefer the Me 109 myself, but you just know 'DCS' 190 is going to kick a lot of butts around what with narrow landing gear and all. :D This morning was the first time in a month or so I fired up P-51D, and I found myself veering off the runway on several take off rolls. Nice. :D

Fast forward to DCS Corsair. Yum.

ED have been taking my money since 1995. :P

Are you implying that you prefer the Me-109 landing gear? I shudder to think how difficult a fully simulated 109 takeoff would be. Even the guys with the actual seat-of-the-pants feel and their lives at stake had scores of mishaps.

Well, as long as we have interesting things to discuss, all is good in DCS land.

I'd rather have the 109 as well. It's number four on my list of favorite aircraft, while the Focke-Wulf is something like number seven. But, hey, I can't complain about having a well-modelled virtual FW 190 to fly. It was ten years ago that I first experienced my long desire for a twin study sim: Lockheed P-38 versus Messerschmitt Me 109. Perhaps, someday ... someday.

Yup if we ever get a 109 at the level of the P-51 I would be interested to see if they can get the feeling of landing it as described by many pilots back then, I would also like the Me-262, and experience the sudden realization that slowing this thing down for final is going to be a little tougher than the prop driven birds before it :)

I am enjoying seeing his passion come through, I know on the CloD forums after he left the feeling of that passion was gone, the crew left to work on the sim felt empty, as if they were working at a job they didnt really like, at one point one of them mentioned that they dont even play the sim anymore, which is a scary thought when they are trying to fix it. Total reversal here... you just have to engage Yo-Yo in the topic of these planes to know how passionate he is about what he does, and that's why I will be a big fanboy for some time :)

Also also hope things are taken to the next level for DCS and WWII, BoS sounds like it will be more MMO (earn your upgrades) type flyer. I will still try it, but the more details I hear the more it feels like another War Thunder type entry.

Does this reflect a shift of impetus/interest/direction towards older 'war birds' for ED? Will this be separate to DCSW or as part of it?

Sorry if this has been asked I'm on my mob at work with naff connection and no home PC for a while (if it has been said any chance of quotes/links).

This is RRG Studios creating something within DCS World, it doesnt reflect a shift in what ED is doing at all. Still excited for ED's F/A-18C :)

Thanks for the heads up Sith. But one can presume the decision to buy up people to do with WW2 sim experience suggests a certain amount of focus in that direction in terms of new modules/a map or environment for the old war birds to operate in?

I guess if ED wanted to push say F/A-18c or any other new 'modern' content they would have invested in people with those skills?

I suppose my question is three fold:

1) Given the aparence of p51 and soon FW190 in this modern digital battlespace/simulator are we to assume that this reflects a surge more in that direction?

2) Is this in a effort to take pressure off ED devs allowing another dedicated group to focus on old war birds allowing ED to work on modern stuff?

3) are they coming in to supplement ED as a whole on all projects?

Just trying to get a feel for the strategic direction atm as F/A18/HiFi's seems to be getting little love atm and war birds (hifi) and other LoFi stuff is getting a lot of love.

In my humble opinion if ED were focused to knocking out F/A18c sooner rather that later (or as some order of priority project) I would have expected them to bring in people that can help specifically with that. On the other hand my prima facie analysis of this move appears to signal a kind of focus towards older war birds.

- Not b****ing, just trying to get a feel for what on the horizon over the next year to 18 months as we dont really have any concrete timescales from ED and I wont pretend that for me its all about the F/A18c :)

I am just a tester, so I am only speaking from my perception and understanding which is not informed much more than any other user.

As far as RRG is concerned, their project is their project, much like other 3rd Parties. It doesnt change ED's plan or focus.

As far as the P-51 and Dora, well what is wrong with more? Its unrealistic to think that everyone at ED can work on 1 aircraft at once, everyone has their job as far as I can see, So if the FM guy is waiting on documents for X plane, why not work on Y plane while he waits?

On the same note, if you can draw in WWII fans that dont care for modern stuff why not? It only means more money in the pot for other projects in the future.

I can understand people that are fans of modern aircraft and how it feels they are stuck behind another aircraft of a different era, but I really feel like that is unwarranted. The F/A-18C will arguable out sell the P-51D or even the Dora, least in my opinion. But the development time on a modern fighter has to be quite alot longer than a WWII fighter... why not keep your team busy with smaller money making projects as you go.

Nobody totally understands the relationship with RRG yet, maybe they will take over the older era stuff for them or maybe just add to it so that the P-51 and Dora have a more relevant environment to fly. I think Sept 1st should clear that up more, least I think... I feel confident in saying though this will only make ED healthier and not hurt their bread an butter, which is the modern stuff.

Again this is all my perception...

Oops, so it's the 109 with narrow main wheels. hehe That's what I was talking about then. :D

Narrow and splayed out. Not ideal for going straight and level on less than perfect forward airfields with a powerful engine. Every aircraft has it's quirks. Apparently the approach speed is pretty high for the 190. We will learn some tricks, I'm sure.

I do have a love for the 109 myself. Amazing flying qualities and it is hard to argue with the combat record. It would be nice to experience the pleasure of being on the other side of that 20mm cannon too!

Can't wait to work on some 190/109 skins!

Exciting times for those interested in war birds (happy but naff mustang pilot here). But still give me my F/A-18c asap. Please please please please please please please!!!!!

Just an aside but I'd love to see an early period Eastern front study sim, i.e. planes like E/F-series Biffers, Stukas, IL-2 single seaters and Chaikas/Ratas modelled comprehensively and properly this time. Here's hoping

The DCS Mi-8MTV2. The best aviational BBW experience you could ever dream of.
