The OFFICIAL Logo Design and Submission Thread

Thank you guys for running the unofficial one. Let's keep this one simple, and have a few rules.

The LOGO.

The series title is DCS WWII.

The project title is Europe 1944

The logo needs to clearly define that. We are designing the DCS WWII logo that should be universal enough to fit other bylines. DCS WWII: Pacific 1943 or DCS WWII: Barbarossa 1941 or DCS WWII: Korea 1950 should all be possible with no redesign of the main portion of the logo.

It should be country and conflict specific - no stars, crosses, plane silhouettes, etc.

Please avoid cliches - metal sheets, rivets, bullet holes, stencil fonts.

The logo should look good when printed on a giant banner, or in a corner of a business card. It should also look good as a desktop icon.

Colors should be unique, and yet flexible when needed.

The logo must look good in black and white.

The logo should also be simple enough, or have a simplified version, to potentially allow for it to be embroidered on a shirt or a hat. In other words, there's a finite number of stitches per square inch, and obvious limitations to color. The logo needs to look OK when converted to embroidery.

And my personal opinion, and not a guideline at all - I think the most visually strong logo here would simply be DCS WWII written in a unique, recognizable font, arranged into a unique, recognizable shape. I.e., the logo is not a thing with DCS WWII written on it, the logo is "DCS WWII". However, I'm ready to be proven wrong.

Let's keep this thread to submissions only. Please use the existing unofficial thread for discussions. Feel free to edit your submission here any time.

We'll run this until October 15th, and then I'll select the logos I personally like the best, and then we'll have a poll.

The winner of the general vote goes on everything.

The author of the winning logo receives a prize equivalent to the Kickstarter MATRIX Tier 8 (two copies of the finished game plus any SEVEN extras, plus a special stand-alone mention in the game credits as DCS WWII Logo By)

Once we have the logo, I'll do the same for a T-shirt design contest. We'll run it from the 15th till the 30th. We'll put it up for a vote, and print THREE of the top designs as voted for by backers. There will of course be rewards there as well.

If you want, you can start thinking about T-shirts already. I really want to make it something better than a cheap flimsy shirt with a logo plastered onto it slightly askew.

And as an example of what I mean - a quick version of a pacific 1943 version (yes - the "sun" needs more work ;))

Here's my entry :)

Nothing fancy but rather simple. I tried to be creative with that WW, but it's still a work in progress. Logo could be on both light and dark background.

Update 13th oct.: I redone the WWII portion of the logo to have the same aspect ratio as DCS logo.

Same logo as black and white stencil.

I also did the app icon and wanted to make it simple and sleek just like the DCS one. It won't include the "Europe 1944" in it because with such limited space it would be hard to read anyway. And the name of the application is usually below the icon.

All zoom levels are custom created so it scales nicely from 16x16 to 256x256 without loss of quality.

Images are just a preview and original logo is created in high resolution while stencil version is available in vector. Font used is free for commercial use and can be redistributed without any problem. The entire work is original and/or uses a non-copyrighted material.

This is what raised to my mind.

My thoughts behind this logo:

DCS in it's original design makes clear that the sim is hi fidelity, the Grey makes this massive.

WWII is in a font that depicts the time frame of the era. (Serpentine Bold) the green color represents the

Landscape of Normandie.

Europe 1944, with red accent on 1944

A simplified logo for general purpose, T-shirts etc in vector format

And a more "dressed up" one for web or advertising.

There are more variations possible in form and color as the design is vector based.

(Suitable for places where the main, visually stronger logos are not appropriate, such as the back covers of the game's aircraft manuals and strategy manual, and the background of certain web pages or pages in the manuals.)

By the way, it may be a good idea to manually change the browser's backgound colour so as to view the logo images against a darker background too.

Here's mine. I wanted something simple yet strong, that would work well on any shirts or printed material.

The Main Logo No.2, I forgot to mention yesterday, can also function well without its background in which it is presented, that is, with only the letters in the foreground, as shown below. These images are in the style of desktop wallpapers.

Different colour themes of the logo are of course possible.

Inspired by "Triumph des Willens" and "Red October".

I lack the artistic skill that some of you have, but rather like leaflet-type period font and simplicity.

Nothing speaks Europe theater more than a German font type (Potsdam in this case).

I wouldn't mind seeing some new ones that broaden the choice range and include stylized logos (like eg. the Aston Martin one). A mash-up would also be nice.

I'm still working on something stylized in the lines of wings to depict "WWII". But I'm not an artist, so it takes a lot of effort for something simple.

Making something simple and functional/good looking/etc. is the high art of craftsmanship. "Cut away everything unimportant - but not more!"

So, no worries if making things simple can be complex! :o)
