Operation Bactria (MP COOP 14), Afghanistan CAS

Recommended Posts

I just tried to do a single player version of Boar flight with a single AI wingman. I got to the IP and received no call from Chalice, was unable to communicate with any JTAC.

I haven't tried any other flights yet.

Are there any things in particular which must be done? Can anyone confirm that the scripting is still working in 1.2.7?

PS, I did resave the mission file so don't bother asking me that.

Hello all,

Just to chime in, the mission should work properly as long as you save it in the editor before flight. Unfortunately with every patch some things drastically change. Most noticeably, infantry fire ranges, or the distance that the enemy will actually fire on friendly units, seems to change every patch. The result is calls for "intense ambushes" from the ground JTAC when nobody is actually shooting. I have also noticed a few patches ago that flares had no impact on the accuracy of MANPADs. Fortunately, this seems to be fixed in the latest patch.

@P*Funk, I can guarantee you broke the mission when you added an AI into Boar flight or at least changed it somehow. The triggers require the aircraft names to be identical as the normal mission as well as the coalition, which is Belgium for Boar flight. Give that a try.

Thank you all for your comments. With so many patches and upcoming changes (EDGE) it is extremely difficult to keep these missions working properly. Fortunately Bactria has had minimal issues when it comes to this. I will resume development on a successor to Bactria once EDGE gets released.

Yea I tried it again being very careful and this time it worked fine with an AI wingman. I'll post if anything else anomalous happens.

Always appreciate your work on this one. I wish there were more missions like this around.

Quick Q:

We've joined Tusk flight.

At a certain moment we have to search for a British POW.

An UAZ is mentioned, and we followed him until he stopped ivo a compound.

No additional calls were made.

I presume that the POW is in the UAZ, so no tasking on the UAZ?!

Do we have to take out the camp? And what will be the mission succes?

From the mission file:

It looks like the compound in the village is an insurgent hideout. Multiple AAA positions have been spotted as well as MANPAD teams surrounding the compound. Engage enemy air defenses with guns and rockets only to prevent killing the POW. We have a chopper inbound to the location now, so move quickly.

From memory the rest of this tasking is activated once the UAZ reaches a trigger zone next to the compound. Once the UAZ drives up to it, the pilot and some guards should exit the vehicle and proceed to the compound.

The latest DCS patch might have changed AI behavior or the conditions for this tasking, but I recommend re-saving the mission file in the editor just to be sure.

I did resave the mission file.

But I never saw pilot and guards exit the vehicle and proceed to the compound.

Don’t know if you have the time to take a look at it?

Is anyone else having a problem where the radio menu freezes up or no longer accepts new inputs after completing your first cas mission? I was playing as boar and after completing the first CAS mission helping out the SOF forces and after my wingman and myself completed the 3 tasks we were given by the JTAC and were told to return to the IP for more missions, we then started to return to the IP and as we were nearing the IP, I received the new MGRS coordinates for the next CAS mission. Before we were going to head to that next mission I wanted to refuel. Unfortunately my radio menu had now frozen and I would not be able to communicate with the JTAC or tanker. I had this problem once before in the same time on a different attempt at this mission but figured it was a freak occurence. I can get into my am, fm, and interphone menu's but once in the menu, it won't go any further, I cannot go into the submenu's, (JTAC, tanker, etc) unfortunately making this mission unplayable. I have not had this problem on any other mission ever. Any ideas?

I have had this happen in other MP missions as well so I don't think it's unique to this mission but rather a possible bug that came with one of the recent updates.

My wingman and I flew this mission the other night after a couple months of hiatus on my part. This has always been our go-to when we want entertaining and realistic scenarios. We were tasked from one IP to a target area and engaged an ambush after being directed by the JTAC. We killed everything we could see but the JTAC never spoke to us again. We went back to the IP and didn't get another call. We re-upped in another flight and went to another IP and were directed to an artillery strike. We took out the target and the JTAC never spoke to us after that initial engagement. We returned to the IP and were ignored, too. I did open it and save it for 1.2.7, I certainly look forward to the latest version as this single mission has given me days of enjoyment (not just hours ;) )

Few questions: Which flight were you in? If you were in Hawg, Pig, or Tusk, then it is likely that you didn't kill all the units you needed to in order to progress. Sound files will always play once a particular condition is met to lead you to the next tasking.

If you were in Boar flight (the 2 ship) where the in-game JTAC is used then sadly I cannot guarantee reliability or stability. With every patch the way the JTAC processes and assigns target seems to change, causing many issues with this flight in the mission.

The one we hit the mortar target and killed everything on the hilltop was the two ship slot and the first was one of the four ships and the enemy was in the tree lines. There is a reasonable possibility that someone got away in the trees, the firefight stopped and we couldn't find anyone with the TGP. We'll have to give it another shot, which I look forward to!:pilotfly:

Habu,

We took a pair of A-10Cs from Pig flight (4 slot with voice over JTAC) and had no issues over the target. The sequence continued as soon as all the targets were destroyed from the first call. Works great!

Just wanted to say fantastic mission & many thanks!! Had a load of fun and the immersion with the actual mission design/tasking and VO work was top-notch. Flew it the first time today solo in SP, received and completed 3 tasks (1: Assist unit under heavy enemy fire - 2: Take out high value target at an airfield protected by an SA-13 and AAA - 3: Escort convoy from FOB and assist en-route) before my time on station was up and AWACS released me to RTB. Very much looking forward to playing it again and see what other tasks are in store for me :) Thanks again!!

I confirm this bug.. Same happened in our squad.

Tusk Flight

Hope edge comes with new Mission editor option to make this kind of awesome missions more easy to make

Regarding the problem with the UAZ, I privately added a feature where a user can cancel the existing mission with a F10 radio action to begin another one. This would be useful if players get frustrated with a certain tasking, but more importantly, it future proofs the mission from bugs that come up with new patches and issues that mission makers cannot control. When EDGE comes out I will re-release this mission and hopefully remove these patch-induced bugs.

I was flying Tusk flight today, and followed the UAZ. Still the same problem. Tried to exit the mission via F10, but no joy. All I get is the last coordinates, but no other radio action to begin another mission.

I double checked the version I was flying, and it was 3.1. (Although in the debrief screen I saw 3.0)

Can you check the uploaded version?

Or did I miss something?

All help much appreciated, for this damn fine mission!

Operation Bactria v3.2 Released

Download Link, v3.2

Compatible with latest version of DCS: World but only guaranteed to work 100% with much older versions of DCS: World. I will overhaul the entire mission once EDGE gets released.

Hello all,

Today I uploaded a new version of Op. Bactria into the user files section of the ED website. As I have said before, I'm not a big fan of having to issue patches because I prefer to release large, complete updates that add new content.

The only addition in this version is the option for players to end the tasking they are on via a F10 radio action. PLEASE ALLOW 5 MINUTES FOR NEW TASKING TO BE GENERATED, AND NOT EVERY TASKING WILL PROVIDE INSTANT, VERBAL FEEDBACK WHEN THE TASKING HAS BEEN ENDED VIA F10 ACTION. New tasking will, however, be created within 5 minutes of pressing the action.

The circumstances around this "hotfix" are rather unfortunate given the fact that the latest DCS patches have broken a tasking in Tusk flight where a UAZ drove to a compound. I cannot guarantee that this tasking will work again in v3.2, but at least players can opt to end the tasking if it is still broken. All other taskings should work normally.

Again, when EDGE gets released, expect an overhaul and new missions using the Bactria-style framework.

Habu
