Question is it "easy" to change the F5 for another aircraft ? I was thinking of the M2000 that could do A/A and A/G as well.

I would love to try it but don't have the F5, I record someone writing he did modify you "defender of the caucasus" campaign to adapt it to another aircraft. Just don't know how he did that not if it could work with this campaign.

I also thought I'd try to modify it a bit for the Causcus. I took a peek at the scripts, and immediately closed the browser. The amount of time MBot put into this is astounding! My weak skills are not up to the task. MBot, I know earlier on you said that this engine was designed to be adaptable to different theaters and aircraft. After bug squashing, will you be releasing any documents or tips for users to make their own campaigns? Please don't think I'm complaining, you've done an amazing thing for DCS!

Yes that would be possible, though it requires a bunch of adjustments in different LUA files. First the aircraft type has to be adjusted in the oob_air, then the loadout profiles have to be defined in the loadout db and finally the players radio frequency range in the camp file (all in the Init subfolder).

It is pretty modular in the sense that the system can handle a wide variety of aircraft types and eras. It can generate carrier strike missions for Backfires, fighter sweeps for Sabres or bomber escorts for Mustangs. Setting it up is some work though, as you need to define the data for the engine to work with. Expect a couple weeks of work to create a new campaign from scratch. Eventually I will have to write down everything, but at the moment I am rather developing than documenting. For now let me just say that everything that has to be adjusted is the Init folder, the script folder does not need to be touched.

Hi Mbot.

I have juat played the first mission.

Seems very good.

I have an enquire... Should not be difficult.

Is there a possibility to add bearing and distance of the wps from from bullseye or starting point in the briefing? Also for the tagets, so we dont need to go toF10 map?. You could put it in the Kneeboard map, instead of wp numbers... That would help with navigation in long diatances, using TACAN

Thanks MBot, probably too tricky for me though.

Very happy to see it is possible to have a dynamic campaign, that's a very good addition for DCS.

Downloaded. Initial mission was a miserable failure with all six a/c in our package gone and 0 MiGs taken with us :) Will try to go over a few more missions over the week and give feedback.

A little heads up to ED and Belsimtek regarding skins. Some of the skin names for the F-5E include an apostrophe. Since this is a character used in LUA to define strings, this unfortunately makes these skins unusable by my campaign. I do not expect that ED or Belsimtek goes back to change any skin names, but I would strongly suggest to refrain from using ' or " in skin names in the future.

It would have been cool to have more USAF skins for the F-5E. Especially for the 64th and 65th Fighter Weapons/Aggressor Squadrons, considering that with Nellis AFB we have their home base on the Nevada map. Unfortunately most aggressor skins, also the new ones form the contest, are Marines and Navy.

You can't escape the apostrophe in the skin name so it's treated as a regular character?

I'm pretty busy at the time, but I hope to find some time to check this out between the years (probably in 2 player coop). I'm really stoked for this!

MBot, when the 21 version will be available ? The hype is stronk on this one =D

Let's see, perhaps I can wrap it up this evening.

I am not sure how much this has actually been played yet, but it seems so far there are no game-breaking bugs, which is good news.

There are some ground units which I think would have really fitted well in the scenario of this campaign, so ED if you are reading this...

-SA-7 Strela-2. A low-tech rear-aspect MANPADS would have been great to have. I decided against using the SA-18 Igla as substitute, since it is just way too modern and capable. The SA-7 was the mainstay of Warsaw Pact low altitude air defense and every target in this campaign should have some for their defense.

-S-60 57mm AAA and the RPK-1 fire control radar. In the 70s the S-60 was still in wide use in the Warsaw Pact and was one of the most frequent AAA in the world.

-SA-2. While it would not offer any fundamentally different gameplay compared to the existing SA-3 (unlike the SA-7 and S-60, which have no counterpart in DCS yet), it would have fit perfectly for the time frame if this campaign.

- A Sa-7 Strella-2 missile (and others russian Manpads) has into the DCS: World as 3D models (a little old), but not implemented as a usable weapon (missing proper launcher to 60s, etc era).

- S-60 and others cold war AAA has planned by ED to Develop after the WW2 Flak AAA has complete.

- Sa-2 (S-75) and Sa-5 (S-200) on plans by ED (with other Sam units).

Interesting. I couldn't care less if these were using the wrong Igla shoulder launcher, just having these working in the game would be so important.

Is it possible to exchange the F-5 to i.e the M-2000C?

Yes that would be possible, though it requires a bunch of adjustments in different LUA files. First the aircraft type has to be adjusted in the oob_air, then the loadout profiles have to be defined in the loadout db and finally the players radio frequency range in the camp file (all in the Init subfolder).

Sadly doing the changes above did not suffice. It still complains that the F-5 module is missing.

I tried changing the 64 FWS and the 65 FWS respectively to M-2000C in the OOB_AIR and all other above stated changes. Tried modifying the 64 FWS flights in the FirstMission.miz to M-2000C groups too, but it still wont go for it. I'd love to try this dynamic campaign I currently don't own the F-5. Any further input on this would be greatly appreciated MBot!

Change the CMP file. You'll see the line I'm talking about.

I already did, it made no difference. :(

EDIT: I forgot the obvious, I offcourse had to rebuild the MissionFirst.miz after changing the luas...

I think this is a good idea. I think TACAN is probably not appropriate as not every aircraft has it and it would be inoperable in wartime, and bullseye is difficult to use for navigation. But what I did was to add magnetic heading and distance to the next waypoint on the kneeboard map.
