VFA-2 Bounty Hunters Hornet Ops

Keeping our thread up to date. After some time off, four of us got together on Saturday for A-to-A and A-to-G.

So after we each knocked down some Mirages, a 4-ship of MiG-21s generated. They are difficult to spot on radar and even harder, visually. Three of us died from IRMs, leaving Glad with two Fishbeds. This sequence shows him dispatching one.

After wounding the MiG with an AIM-9X, Glad moved in to finish him off with guns.

Jowen,

 

Since this is a mod after all, the radar may not exact. It seems to have trouble with the small Fishbed. Mirages on up to MiG-29s and beyond, no issues. Plus the -21 AI is really good at beaming and spoofing.

 

These survived as most of us were out of BVR missiles and left to IRMs. Glad popped this one, but it only damaged it and was forced into a very close gun fight.

Wow its really surprising that the MiG-21 are difficult tu see on the radar, because they have a very high RCS... Doesn't make sense to me.. But still beautiful screens here ! Can't wait for the F-18 and F-14 seriously

 

Yeah it may just be the mod or the Mig-21 model in the game but they are pretty tough to detect especially when they come in low. Had a few more good pics...

I think we started back in February... That's when we hooked up with the virtual 113th and Jar really helped us out those guys were very friendly and welcoming. Most of us were A10 C guys before that. We are all pretty excited for the F5 though probably will take a break from The Hornet mod when it drops.

Curious, do you guys fly your carrier ops in DCS 1.5, then have to swtich to DCS 2.0 to fly the bombing and air to air sorties? Any reason you don't fly all MP mission in 1.5?

 

When DCS moves to 2.5 or 3.0, it will allow selection of the theater, so I guess that will help with this right?

Right now for the most part we do separate our carrier ops from missions. We fly traps beforehand for a grade then fly most of our missions in the NTTR map which we use a overlay of Iraq that works quite well. We do however have some full campaign missions in the works that launch and recover in 1.5. The Merge will help things a lot. So will the Strait of Hormuz map :D

Are you guys using the Caucasus Texture DLC by Starway?

 

Nice pics as usual. Love the attention to detail on the CAG and Skipper birds, plus the line jets.

 

Yes those 1.5 picks are using Starway's awesome textures. Thanks on the details. We've had a lot of contributions on the artwork from Jar, Strom and myself(on the XO Bird). For some reason my custom fuel tank art wasn't working in 1.5 the other night. Need to trouble shoot that :) but it is showing nicely on the 2.0 pics that are most recent.

 

We run a variety of mission types from CAP, Strike, CAS, and SEAD. We're getting ready to start a new Campaign in 1.5 now that we have Starway's textures were we will take off and return to the Carrier.

So Tuesday we started our new Campaign set in 2003 with the Russian Georgian invasion...Operation Restore Balance. I'll get some of the awesome briefing slides that Sage put together up in here soon. We flew the first mission to start the Campaign with just the VFA-2 Bounty Hunters. Mission 2 which will take place next Tuesday the 19th will be flown with our good friends from the VFA-113 Stingers.

 

This first mission was a deep strike. We had two flights TARCAP with Bullet's 100, 102, and 106. With the strike being conducted by Bullets 101, and 103. The mission was a pretty deep interdiction which required us to tank on the way out, the CAP flight had to alternate a few times out to get gas mid mission. And we had to tank on the way back to the carrier to end the mission. The CAP flight was at altitude with the Strike flight coming in on the deck using terrain to get through the SAM network. It was a great mission. The Strike group successfully destroyed the targets and the CAP kept them safe. Great start to the new Campaign!

Night SEAD Ops

 

Saturday night, Hollywood and I did some additional SEAD training. The catch, it was at night.

 

Luckily the F/A-18A has Night Vision, so what could go wrong?

 

After the launch, the two of us topped off our tanks from our friendly RAAF "KC-30".

After an hour on station dueling with SAMs and AAA, we head back to "Avenger". Hollywood calls in with a fuel state of only 1800lbs, so we decide we'll need a tanker. After climbing to a better fuel efficient altitude, I vector him toward the nearest tanker and allow him to concentrate on flying.

Picking up the tanker on the NVGs, we continue the rendezvous.

Taking on 6000lbs of JP-5, we begin the recovery procedures. At night, I make a straight in and catch a 2-wire. Not my best effort, but on goggles it's good enough for now. Hollywood follows in sequence and makes it home.

looking great, is it somehow possible to get through the integrity check on MP servers with this mod installed ?

 

had to remove it for that reason... tooo bad I love the flyable F18 and the carrier

Jabo,

 

Sadly no. Most big mods do fail the integrity check imposed on the servers. Unless the host has that option unchecked. Hence why we host our own missions and rarely interfly with other groups, other than VFA-113.

 

Its not a cheating thing for us, but simply overcoming a temporary delay until the full Hornet is released.
