Hope to have a New Template Build this week,

w/ the new weathering and updated UVWs, etc

Depends on this GPU's Cooperation, as it did not want to cooperate all weekend w/ UVW Coordinate Rendering.

Finally got the new UVWs Dumped and Sorted enough to render to a 4096^2 Bitmap,

So I should have a new Template done this weekend, Needs Lots of Cleaning up and condensing, as I have my custom layers for my liveries still in the PSD those + all my random reference images will be deleted.

You can name the files whatever you want, you need to save a Diffuse and Specular separately,

ie:

F-86F_DIFF_carss_main.dds

F-86F_SPEC_carss_main.dds

The Specular Layer is not universal and needs to be tuned for each livery, otherwise you'll have random areas of matte/reflection that dont match the livery.

Please Note Guys,

That new Nose Borts were added and the Tail Borts Names have changes for the description.LUA.

If You Want To Remove the Borts, You will need these Lines, Along w/ the Empty.DDS in the Livery Folder.

(Empty.DDS is Linked in the First Post)

You'll Also Have to add Specular and Diffuse Layers to the Description.LUA for the Borts As well to load the background textures.

(These are the Material Names, You'll have to add Diffuse and Specular Lines for the Materials w/ the Diffuse and Specular Texture Names.)

Thanks Skate! So many of us are flying custom skins made by all the talent out there, yourself among them. With your efforts, perhaps we can again use those skins. It is frustrating whenever ED gives us a better product but in the process, undoes the efforts of so may. Not complaining, just wish there was a better solution than you artists having to rework your skins after some of the updates. Again, thanks for all you guys do. I wouldn't even know where to start in making a custom skin. With so many contributing, DCSW just keeps getting better and better. Nothing else even comes close.

Sorry there was a delay in the Updated template,

Added a few lil details, and adjusted some, should be uploaded this weekend w/ fixes previously mentioned.

-Chrome Wing Leading Edge (There's a small space on the tips that it didnt cover, needed to extend it)

-Chrome Horizontal Stab Leading Edge (Top and Bottom were Mis-Aligned.)

-Chrome Exhaust only Had Specular Adjustments on Left side, right side was missing the panel lines and rivets, also had some previous text ghosting).

-Weathering Very DARK, was Missing Parts on the Vertical Stab Root, Wing Roots, etc, that used to be Part of the layer, I dunno when I eraser brushed the Ambient Occlusion from the layer, but it causes a Huge Mis-Match at the Roots of the Vertical Tail etc.

I need to try and re-cover this layer from a older version, as the source for this layer is no longer the same in current versions of DCS, or Just Re-Create it as close as Possible.

Quick GUIDE for converting the OLD Liveries to the NEW BORT NAMES.

Ultimately it is the AUTHOR'S / CONTENT CREATOR's Responsability to Update their Liveries,

As I Stated when I started working on the Un-Official PSD Templates 2 Years ago, The Module was still in Beta and Development that's would likely change, and Livery compatibility would be affected with every model update.

First, I just want to point out that this PSD is an UNOFFICIAL PSD, and Not an Official BST PSD.

This PSD Template is in no way related to any template they may or may not be preparing.

Future Compatibility May or May Not Change due to Texture Map Changes on the 3d Model.

Step 1:

OPEN THE DESCRIPTION.LUA IN NOTEPADD++

Step 2:

Remove ANY BORT Previous Material Lines (There's Usually 3, Diffuse, Specular and Decal Layers)

"F86_BORT_NUMBER_01"
"F86_BORT_NUMBER_10"
"F86_BORT_NUMBER_100"

"F86_BORT_NUMBER_TAIL_01"
"F86_BORT_NUMBER_TAIL_10"
"F86_BORT_NUMBER_TAIL_100"

Step 3:

Paste the Following Into the Description.LUA (This will also add Lines for anyone not running latest patches as well)

	--[[ Tail Bort Numbers ]]--

For Borts You want to be visible, delete or REM (using -- ) the channel 3 Lines for each section. (REM'd Lines will turn GREEN)

Step 6:

Custom BORT Textures (SKIP IF USING DEFAULT BORT FONT/TEXTURE):

If Needed for Custom Bort Textures, replace "empty" with custom bort texture filename.

Hopefully by the end of this year I'll have a tweaked/updated template uploaded,

I'm busy Sorting layers a bit better and re-naming some things etc etc.

As well as re-doing specific layers (ie Leading Edge Chrome/Matte masks, exhaust tips, etc etc etc), as the ones I did for my FJ3M Liveries was slightly incorrect in width and alignments etc.

All of my liveries will also be re-exported w/ updated alignments and details, and I will likely have a few more close to being done for the FJ3M Category.

Thank you very much for the tutorial SkateZilla,this has been really appreciated,I just love that Huff skin.

The Huff skin by Bo Nidle is superb,as is your excellent template Sir,one of the reasons I like Bo's skins is that,unlike many other F-86F skins,he really dials in the detail.

For example,he has totally transformed the inside of those large speed brakes,putting in the correct detail behind the speed brake door,and ensuring the inside colour is the correct colour.

F-86's that left the factory had internal colour of Olive Green,the same colour as the internal airframe,and not red as is depicted in the default skin/template,the red colour was obviously picked up by the original skin/template creator after seeing a restoration F-86 that has been well photographed on the web,which has it's speed brake bay painted red.

Detail such as this,makes a good skin great IMO.

No worries SkateZilla,that colour has been used for the F-86F speed brake internals from day one of it's release,but it is incorrect.

Check the correct colour on this F-86F internal airframe,this is the colour it would've left the factory in,years later when all these icon aircraft were being restored they obviously didn't take much care what colour they painted them in.

  • 2 months later...

Does anyone that does skinning know where I can find the needles used in the gauges of the F-86?

All of the cockpit textures have all of the gauges but the needles used on those gauges are not there. I want to make some small changes like adding color to the arrow tip on the needle used by the ADF radio compass, but I can't find the actual gauge needle images anywhere.

Thanks,

Quick GUIDE for converting the OLD Liveries to the NEW BORT NAMES.

Ultimately it is the AUTHOR'S / CONTENT CREATOR's Responsability to Update their Liveries,

As I Stated when I started working on the Un-Official PSD Templates 2 Years ago, The Module was still in Beta and Development that's would likely change, and Livery compatibility would be affected with every model update.

Step 1:

OPEN THE DESCRIPTION.LUA IN NOTEPADD++

Step 2:

Remove ANY BORT Previous Material Lines (There's Usually 3, Diffuse, Specular and Decal Layers)

"F86_BORT_NUMBER_01"
"F86_BORT_NUMBER_10"

"F86_BORT_NUMBER_TAIL_01"
"F86_BORT_NUMBER_TAIL_10"
"F86_BORT_NUMBER_TAIL_100"

Step 3:

Paste the Following Into the Description.LUA (This will also add Lines for anyone not running latest patches as well)

Step 4:

RENAMING THE DIFFUSE AND SPECULAR TEXTURES,

Goto the TOP of the Description.LUA, LOCATE THE "F-86_MAIN" TEXTURE NAMES.

HIGHLIGHT THE TEXTURE NAME FOR THE DIFFUSE TEXTURE, RIGHT CLICK, COPY (OR CTRL+C),

Now Press CTRL + H To Bring Up Replace Dialog,

Under FIND WHAT: Type in: F-86F_MAIN_DIFFUSE_BORT_UPDATE

Under Replace With: Paste or Type In the Diffuse Texture Name from F-86F_MAIN Channel 0,

Click Replace All Button.

Repeat for Specular Texture,

HIGHLIGHT THE TEXTURE NAME FOR THE SPECULAR TEXTURE, RIGHT CLICK, COPY (OR CTRL+C),

Under FIND WHAT: Type In: F-86F_MAIN_SPECULAR_BORT_UPDATE

Under Replace With: Paste or Type in the Specular Texture Name from F-86F_MAIN Channel 2,

Click Replace All Button.

Step 5:

Removing Lines for BORTs you want to be Visible (The Code above removes all BORTS, Tail, Rear Fuselage, and Nose Area).

Note, MOST Liveries use the DEFAULT BORT, check original description.lua to see if a custom texture is listed, if it is.

Right Click Copy that texture name, PASTE it over the EMPTY texture name for sections that use custom BORT Texture.

CLICK SAVE,

DONE.

Hi SkateZilla,

First off, thanks for all the info, you rock!

I followed these instructions to a T however, the only issue I'm having is the first digit in the Tail bort number still shows. All the other bort numbers are gone and the tail bort number is gone as well except for the first digit in it. My F-86 tails all now have a single digit bort number.

I'm using one of your skins and there is a dds file in here named "empty" and that is confusing because your example does not show all the source files and I'm not sure if word "empty" is supposed to represent an empty space or if it is simply calling the "empty" dds file. This is what the description lua starts with:

--Main Fuselage and Wing Textures

{"F86_MAIN", 0,"F-86F_DIFF_FJ3_VF84_Mock_ALT", false},

{"F86_MAIN", 1,"F-86F_NM_FJ3_VF84_Mock_ALT", false},

{"F86_MAIN", 2,"F-86F_SPEC_FJ3_VF84_Mock_ALT", false},

{"F86_MAIN", 3,"empty", false},

When I adjust the desription file to match what you have showing here with the word "DECAL" in there it brakes the skin entirely.

However, if I change it to this, it works the way I described with all borts gone except one digit on the tail.

--[[ Tail Bort Numbers ]]--

--Right Ones Digit

{"F86_BORT_NUMBER_TAIL_R_01", 0 ,"F-86F_DIFF_FJ3_VF84_Mock_ALT",false};

{"F86_BORT_NUMBER_TAIL_R_01", 2 ,"F-86F_SPEC_FJ3_VF84_Mock_ALT",false};

{"F86_BORT_NUMBER_TAIL_R_01", 3 ,"empty",false};

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Alpha

Click Replace All Button.

Step 5:

Removing Lines for BORTs you want to be Visible (The Code above removes all BORTS, Tail, Rear Fuselage, and Nose Area).

When I adjust the description file to match what you have showing here with the word "DECAL" in there it brakes the skin entirely.

However, if I change it to this below, it works the way I described with all borts gone except one digit on the tail.

--[[ Tail Bort Numbers ]]--

--Right Ones Digit

{"F86_BORT_NUMBER_TAIL_R_01", 0 ,"F-86F_DIFF_FJ3_VF84_Mock_ALT",false};

{"F86_BORT_NUMBER_TAIL_R_01", 2 ,"F-86F_SPEC_FJ3_VF84_Mock_ALT",false};

{"F86_BORT_NUMBER_TAIL_R_01", 3 ,"empty",false};

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

UPDATE: Never mind SkateZilla I got this figured out.

Thanks,

Alpha
