Announcement: DCS Warbirds Collection

Recommended Posts

Oohhhhh a Curtis P40 ..... Id like that . Wasn't it mainly used in Africa and Asia ?

How come no axis birds ?

Africa, Asia, mostly in China. They also saw a lot of conflict in Russia, as the soviets were using them under the lend-lease program in large numbers. Not many people know that the P-40 was the most proficient fighter during WW2, only surpassed by the B-17 in a2a kills.

No cross thread taunting you Leathernecks! ;)

Right you are! No hijacking intended, just wanted to clear up the Grumman statement. The only Cat relevant here is the F8F. :D

Can't wait to fly VEAOs Warbirds, especially the P-40F. You'd be hard pressed to find a more beautiful looking aircraft.

Utterly amazing news !!!

If may ask 2 questions which had been addressed before to some extent:

1. Level of FM planned? (Or how close shall it be to the P-51D and A-10C PFM).

2. How do you position yourselves in relation to RRG Studios who are epected to roll out similar planes (at least some) and at about the same time frame?

Some amazing people are opening huge doors in 2014 for the big celebration of 2015 !

Read the first post..

All aircraft will have the External Flight Model (EFM) and Advanced Systems Modelling (ASM) to DCS fidelity standards. As with all of our modules, we will develop these aircraft to military specifications.

That's cool, looking forward to the bearcat and spitfire but $40 per seems kind of pricey.

Compared to what?

I would have expected $50.

Its reasonable if they are doing P-51D level...

Exactly, if it's P-51D level I can see them charging that amount of money. That's a big IF though. No offense to VEAO but they do not have ED's experience. Their first module with at least an AFM will be a big test (for me at least) as to whether or not to buy future products.

I personally think they're biting off a bit too much with the line-up of aircraft they've proposed, but again, I hope I am proven wrong!

I will say though on the other hand, VEAO knows the bar that has been set by ED, so I doubt they would sign contracts knowing they couldn't meet or exceed that bar.

The more aircraft at PFM/ASM level will never be a bad thing for us virtual pilots, I just hope the over ambition wont get the best of 3rd party developers (Kinney Interactive.)

I'd expect $30 really, its WWII aircraft. All the information is available and its not like they need to make an A2A or A2G radar or code out a bunch of advanced avionics. Also no I have not tried their Hawk, I have seen it fly, perhaps I will when it does have an EFM.

Having flown the Hawk (even with SFM) does bias my opinion of what VEAO will produce for the price.

This isnt as easy as you think, and older aircraft have their own systems that can be tough to code and have data on... the information isnt just sitting their on the internet for you to grab, atleast not the way DCS builds their FMs. So dont down play the amount of work, sure its not like building the A-10C... but then the A-10C was more than 40 bucks as well...

I understand more so than you probably the difficulty involved in developing an aircraft for DCS. I won't go into detail regarding that but I'm not sitting here clueless and ignorant with an opinion. I'm not downplaying anything, you summed it up perfect, its not even close to developing an A-10c. So why will it be so close in price? That's all I'm getting at.

Thank you for your feedback Simis, I appreciate you opinion although we feel this is a very good price point for the product and actually good value for money :)

I will indeed :D Discount for many chickens...!

Convenient, there is one just down the road. :)

What are you waiting for!?

It's not that big of an IF if you have had a chance to try their Hawk, although it doesnt have the PFM yet, its quality is very impressive. I think they will be ok... but it never hurts to be cautious either of course...

Even with SFM we have achieved what is described by a current flight instructor in the hawk what could be a military level simulator. Alot of emphasis is placed upon those 3 little letters nowadays (SFM/PFM/AFM/EFM) and not alot on the experience of using the software.

The feedback from everyone we have shown the hawk to has been outstanding, and its not even finished yet ;)

Trying to sort out packaging/shipping. Perhaps if I soak everything the in the Extra Hot Peri-Peri sauce that will keep it from spoiling on the way over. :D
