June 2014 Update

GS2, I have to say - that blog you linked to seems particularly hostile to ED, especially since they seem to have been unable to take the time to learn how to fly the P-51 module, and were unwilling to learn even the game-ified version. Then goes on to accuse the hardcore simfans of being 'fanboys'.

All that being said, I didn't think they'd raised nearly enough money to do what they promised. Just on the economics alone, something seemed drastically wrong. I'm glad there'll be a FW-190D module at the very least, and hopefully some ground or other air targets for us to attack.

Oh, and I just remembered: I'd love to know what the status is on whether or not the pledges will be honored. I'd be happy with just the P-51 at this point, or the FW-190D. Hell, I wouldn't mind even buying one or both of the modules at a discounted rate all over again. DCS World is unique in its depth and fidelity, and I'm all too happy to continue supporting them!

Everybody has a right to an opinion. I am not sure he understands the task at hand with many of his points, but it is what it is.

http://bobgamehub.blogspot.de/2014/06/dcs-wwii-project-collapses-lead.html

"We raised early concerns given the track record of the devs. These were the people who gave us the self-confessed disaster that was IL2 Cliffs of Dover. Before that, was Project Galba, the Korean war sim that never saw light of day.

It beggared belief that a publishing house like ED/DCS would then agree to collaborate with this team, on a new sim - DCS WWII - and risk their brand value by doing so. They have now taken the consequences of that decision and cut their ties with RRG Studios, assumed control of the project again, and are trying to save their reputation."

Nothing to add.

Now let us hope for the best.

Announcement should be coming soon AK. It will most likely change to some extent.

I always felt $158k isn't enough for what they want to do...

Eagle Dynamics taking over the project is the best thing that could have happened. I think ED can see this through to the end for 3 reasons:

1). The kickstarter backers are just a drop in the bucket of the target demographic. There are tons of people that didn't hear about it in time, or didn't want to pay for something that wasn't a sure thing.

2). They are releasing each module separately instead of one lump package. DCS has already made money off of the P-51. FW-190 is very close to completion. Once it's out they will make money off of it...AND more sales off of P-51 as now there is a WWII community instead of 1 WWII plane in a modern day world. Once the third plane is released, they'll make more money off of it and the previous 2 releases. Each plane breaths new life in the other planes. The profit snowballs.

3). There is no middleman. RRG was dissolved and most employees hired by ED. Now the profit is 100% ED's to do whatever they want with... They no longer have to split it with RRG.

I didn't back. I didn't have the money available at the time. I also prefer to walk into a store and pay full price for each module I want when they are available rather than pay a small percentage for multiple planes I really don't care about and then wait....

They'll get my $60 as soon as they release the P-47D-30.... Until then I'll continue to follow the drama with anticipation! I do think this will come to fruition though!

Eagle Dynamics was funding this project from the get-go, base KS funds were to be used to fund a testing period, and not for the development of core...I'm not sure why people think ED has little money or the credit to borrow

Very fair point of view. Thanks.

I'm just a little embarrassed about the way the KS site was making promises which - with the knowledge of one Ilya Shevchenko - never should have been announced that way.

Waaaaaaayyyy too optimistic.

kind regards,

Raven....

Really looking forward to DCS: WWII with the quality standards that ED is able to deliver. :) Cannot wait for the Me-109. The Dora is a blast. I wish there were more modules out for me to grab to support the awesome work that ED provides!

I believe WWII news is getting rolled into news for the entire range of DCS products, so unfortunately we likely won't hear anything until the next newsletter comes out (assuming there is anything to report). Last thing I remember hearing was that they were starting to turn to the Spitfire while they fine-tune the 190 and 109.

"Hurled headlong flaming from the ethereal sky; With hideous ruin and combustion down;
To bottomless perdition, there to dwell; In adamantine chains and penal fire"

(RIG info is outdated, will update at some point) i5 @3.7GHz (OC to 4.1), 16GB DDR3, Nvidia GTX 970 4GB, TrackIR 5 & TrackClip Pro, TM Warthog HOTAS, VKB T-Rudder Mk.IV, Razer Blackshark Headset, Obutto Ozone
