Can we say how close? Days, weeks, months?

Like it days in my sig: The only thing we know for sure is that we are one day closer than we were yesterday.

You are not new member so you should know "When it's done" :D

Reminder: Fighter pilots make movies. Bomber pilots make... HISTORY! :D | Also to be remembered: FRENCH TANKS HAVE ONE GEAR FORWARD AND FIVE BACKWARD :D

Now that we are getting very close to integrating EDGE into DCS, I can share a few more details.

1- DirectX 11 / DirectX 11 Windows 8 based.

2- Can support up to four GPU (either SLI or CF).

3- Uses clip maps.

4- Two cloud layers can be created with options for none, cumulous, cumulous nimbus, and stratus.

5- Terrain shadow projection is supported.

6- World can be as large as the designer wishes them to be, it is more of a question of development time / map detail.

7- Option to project map on globe surface.

I knew it, but that´s just such great news. Seems like a quatnum leap for DCS is finally here. Also very interested in approximate Sys-Specs (if different from current).

Guess I´ll have to upade my hardware soon. :)

If anything DirectX 11 takes stress off the CPU and puts it on the GPU where it belongs. I would think it would make things better not worse.

Very true. EDGE based terrains will be very GPU dependent. Hence, SLI/CF support.

How many people can play online currently? Someone mentioned back in the old days about having 40-50 people in red flags. Which made me think to a post I saw a few weeks/months back about only having a small number of people in the same server. I haven't played FC/DCS in over a year, so I'm out of the loop. I'm wondering will we see 40+ people online in servers again? Those were the days when it was fun.

1- DirectX 11 / DirectX 11 Windows 8 based.

Does that mean there are features that can only be taken advantage of while running Windows 8 vs. Windows 7?

Yes it must be but it would be great with an confirmation on this.

Directx 11 works absolutely flawlessly on windows 7!

If whatever, the directx 11.1 could be the one that is not backwards compatible, just type win 7 and directx 11 together into google search, tons of download pages appear :)

So as far as I know and this is not confirmed but version 2.7 can be the stage before edge or will be the EDGE version or we won't see a major update until EDGE is built into a patch. However it's very close and we have a really good chance of getting our hands on it before the end of next month.

FYI EDGE is going to be sort of unusual in that with will integrate into DCS: world. Install/Clean.... etc this means that it will fixes and patches and all work and progress can be kept and maintained as far as fixes for mods. I am excited too very excited.

And you know all this how?!?! You are reaching, nothing that has been said by official ED channels points to anything you posted above.

Soon is relative, for me soon could be a month, for someone else days or weeks.
