DCS: World on Steam

That is not up to ED to decide. That is a limitation of Steam itself. Most games that you bought say through a store or origin for example cannot be activated on steam. Only certain products can be, such as valve products and a select few. You can however add them to your library of non steam games and launch from there.

Having a game like DCS: World plus modules going onto Steam will have some hiccups..

I would want to see an update released for Steam before I would move mine there, and I like Steam.

Im just now getting around to doing what I was planning to do in regards to testing,

however until DCSW on Steam and DCS Standalone's versions match it will be difficult.

also,

When I Started the DCSW Download in Steam,

I Double Clicked on it and I already have a Valid Product Code for DCS A-10C - DLC

(I guess that's because I have the Old DCS: A-10C, Purchased from steam), And the Serials are Completely Different.

Why do people who have no idea of how Steam works insist on trying to tell the rest of us how it works?

That sounds pretty good so far but, unless I missed something, if you were to start with a virgin OS install then you would need to do a standalone install first in order to get the proper files to make the updater happy. Unless, of course, you had those files backed up from a previous installation.

..., as right now STEAM is already 2 Days behind pushing out 1.2.5. update 2.

Which is why I said this.

I would want to see an update released for Steam before I would move mine there, and I like Steam.

I remember, before DCS World, how much update lag their was for DCS A-10 on Steam.

Sounds like alot of work, did I mention I am lazy? :)

Well once you run the force update, you replace Steams files with EDs, so you can run updates on the modules and world without waiting for steam...

So if you dont wanna wait for steam, buy the DLC, just to get the key, and license. but have DSW in steam set to not auto update then use the Force Update and modify the CFG File to include all your modules.

Old Modules will be Authenticated the old way, New Modules bought from steam will have the license managed in Steam, and you can use the force update method to keep DCSW and modules up to date faster than steam can put out.

Steam will control the steam bought licenses and DCSW Base install, so you can chat with the friends on steam and what not, but you can control the updates manually.

This is just a work around until the ability to use keys to install via steam is settled.

I was able to do the force update on another system without DCSW Installed by copying the autoupdatedb and making an update CFG file to only update DCSW.

Just add as a non-steam game. Only difference is that it says "Non Steam Game" when your friends look at you playing it. Why go through all that if you're not going to use steam's high speed servers?

We are working with Steam on this and we may have a solution. However, I have no ETA when this will be ready. When I do have news on this front, it will be shared.

That's a good news.

My only concern is that because of copyright issues FC3 can not be released on Steam. Even if we can activate on Steam Black Shark 2 other modules, but can not be activated FC3.

So here I want to give ED a suggestion. Steam has a DLC release method is called Season Pass. It is a DLC package, which does not show sales page, only by Key activated. When the in bag DLC release, Season Pass owners will automatically receive the new DLC.

This will avoid copyright issues, while safeguarding the FC3 owners can activate on Steam. Everybody happy. Hoping to adopt my views. Good luck.

Please, don't hack Steam DCSW to use ED autoupdater.

Current version mismatch is a one-time delay, because we are testing our automatic build system for Steam. The most recent version is already on Steam, but is not visible for you yet. We will open it up in a day or two. After that, all our updates will appear on Steam immediately (possibly with some Steam-internal (load-balancing?) delay, in my tests it was a couple of minutes).

It's not completely Steam-related, but are we going to see a 6DoF/3D cockpit for the Su-25T any time soon (or at all)? I adore the Rook, but I worry that people might get the wrong impression about the other modules from the old-fashioned cockpit, and that would be a shame.

Edit: I see now that Wags confirmed a new cockpit in the works (link). Nifty!

Steam sucks! Won't update Cliffs of Dover. Any game you get on Steam will become obsolete because Steam don't up date on a consistent basis.
hmmm every game I own on steam which is 27 games are all kept updated by steam ,., steam updates the games automatically when a patch or update for that game comes out u need to tick the little box in steam setting so every game u own keeps upto date :book::helpsmilie:
